Could it be your anti-virus or your firewall blocking the connection. Make sure you have added CrossFire to the exception list on your anti-virus and firewall.

Sometimes, not allowing CrossFire full access to your connection can affect loadings and game crashes.

You don't need to disable your Firewall. You can simply add CrossFire to the exception list of Firewall.

What about background programs? Close down any that you don't need or use.
