Disconnected from HGW Server

Hey. I keep getting an error that says I've disconnected from the HGW server. It then shuts down CrossFire altogether. Anyone know what the issue is or how I can fix this?

Thanks!

  • I'm not sure if it's related to what you're experiencing but make sure your antivirus/firewall gives full access/permissions to crossfire.exe, HGWC.exe, and patcher_cf.exe.

Could you post a screenshot of the error message pop-up? Make sure any sensitive information such as loginID/password are NOT visible in the screenshot. With this forum system I don't think they even allow directly attaching pictures, you'd have to upload the screenshot to an image hosting website then post the direct link to the image in between put-your-image-link-here tags. I use imgur.com to upload my screenshots but there are plenty of other sites out there.

(this bit is obvious but a lot of people don't know how to do it)
To post a screenshot, when the error happens press the "print screen" button on your keyboard when the error pops up. Then open Microsoft Paint and hold Ctrl while you press the "V" key to paste the screenshot image into MS Paint. Then save the image to a location that's easy to find and go to an image hosting site to upload it.

How exactly do I give full access to it through my antivirus/firewall?
  • It's different with each antivirus/firewall program, most have an "exceptions" list to which you can add individual programs or even whole file folders. Some instead have a "traffic rules" tab under which you'd give varying levels of permission to individual programs and you'd want to allow full access for the three programs I listed above, with Norton there's an "auto" option and you'd instead choose "allow". If you don't have a third-party firewall then you'd access it under Windows Firewall. I only know how to do with with Norton Firewall but you should be able to Google search whichever firewall program you have on how to add a program to the exceptions list or give it full access through the firewall.

Occasionally when some antivirus programs update which often goes on in the background without informing you, the traffic rules or exceptions list for the firewall will get reset often for just one program, I've had it happen before with Norton and had to re-allow all three through my firewall.
