PING always changing! WTF?

Here's the problem.
Recently I noticed that the ping of several players is constantly changing during the game.
My ping is also constantly changing from 124 to 180.
This only happens in this game. I've played other online games to test and my ping in other online games never changes. "What should happen given that the ping should be static."
I've done several tests of connection I have spoken with my ISP and I have no problem with my Internet connection. But in CrossFire I have this change of ping which is affecting the gameplay and also have a huge lag. I'm using Windows7 and the speed of my internet is 100MBit. I live in Portugal, I've been doing tests in speedtest.com, chose the server TORONTO, and there also gives me 124 ping.
In the image below you can see that the only connection that I have on while i'm playing is the connection to the CrossFire. So I find it strange, my ping is always changing from 124 to 180.
Is there any way to solve this problem or I really have to stop playing??

One more thing, could crossfire admins enable ping for us players so we can make the ping test from oue computer directly to server CrossFire?

  • They are getting ready to make a ping limit.Looks like you wont get to play,JKJK.Im not sure what fixes this as ping is due to how close you are to server location(CANADA)

I think you didn't reed. I made tests on speedtest.com and i've choose TORONTO server. Ping to toronto is 124. In crossfire is more than that. And the real problem is ping changes. And i don't wanna stop play this game but when i play most part of times i don't damage my oponents, i se a lot of blood on them but no damage :(

    Where do you live?

;) like i said you didn't read. I live in Portugal.
  • This is happening to me too. My ping has been changing from 120-200 recently.
    Nothing wrong with my connection.

  • Happens to me too and it's piissing me off real bad. I usually have 99-105 ping and now i'm getting anywhere form 130-250. Then it drops back down for a while, then it spikes. Im from the west coast, Washington State.

I'm on a laptop though, wireless connection...
  • hrmmmmmmmmmmm.................

if u are SURE it stays stable on other games it must be server load problems..... my ping is staying constant 49-55... ping will always fluctuate. if u have spikes of 20 ms or more it can be alot of things, for it ONLY to happen on one server it seems it would be their fault. (but sense every one is not having this issue i dont see how)

if you use DSL the signal filters/spliters go bad and need to be changed every 2 years or so to reduce frequency loss. if u use wireless then dont. (unless u want to spend the money to do it right) if u use cable internet anything from a faulty coax splitter or coupler can cause ping spikes or even a nicked line....

i had ping issues during peak hours before my isp uped their server capacity.. it seemed only certain apps would spike when others "including speed testers" would seem normal...

speed test last only 10-30 secs. if u do not get a spike in the period then it will look normal, keep this in mind.
  • I use cable, i don't use wireless.
I already talk to my ISP we test the connection everything is OK. I made my own tests too and my connection is 100%.
And i can see ingame that most part of users have the same problem their ping changes a lot. I made a netstat and the only connection that i have is to crossfire. I shut down every programe that consumes internet trafic. I am sure that this is CrossFire issue.
I can't make ping comand to crossfire cz they don't enable ping on their machine.

Look arround man, a lot of ppl say the same ****.
  • hey

If you are running windows 7... My brother recently did this and went from 130 ping to 95. And when you have cf opened press ctr+alt+del and go to your processes and show all processes so you get admin rights. Right click on crossfire.exe and change priority to low. I know that is weird... But just do it.. Also if you change it to high than it makes you spike about every 10 seconds to about 1000 ping. Also don't make it run on real time it crashes system and needs to be rebooted ^^. Hope this helped
  • I have CF in normal priority, and i can asure you that i have FULL admin rights on win7. I will test the priority right now.

    Look at this ping test:

That doesnt matter,if the servers and chammels are jammed it will have an effect on your ping.AND LIKE I SAID BEFORE,the further from ther sever the higher the ping. You live no where close to canada.I hate to see Z8 put a ping limit up.You would really be mad...

I will make a guide with 4 useful steps.
  • Is setting crossfire.exe to low priority something that helps everyone or just those with high pings?

I get 70 to 80 on all servers and 5-15 on west.

Will doing this help even me?
  • Maybe

I don't really know. I usually get 43 ping in west coast. This plan doesn't work on windows vista however... Which is kinda saddening.. I set it to high/low doesn't matter just makes it slower when you change it on vista. I will talk to gm saidin or somebody about maybe making this a sticky or something. -Thanks for good comments though guys ^^ 7983630.png and that is my ping thing

No this will not help you cause you don't have a ping issue. eheh. that is your normal ping that's all. Setting low priority will help persons who have changes in their ping i mean huge changes like 100 to 180 or 50 to 100. If you have changes of 5 like 90 to 95 that is 100% normal.
I am sure that you live close to west cost and far from TORONTO that why you ping raise when you play on alpha, bravo servers.
