Resolution Issue / Can't Access Options Menu
My monitor has a native resolution of 1280x768. When I start CF, the game forces the resolution to change to 800x600, leaving black bars on the sides of the screen. Further, the game window doesn't display properly, as I can't access the "options" menu to change the resolution within the game. I can't even see the "quit" button. Link to what I see when the game starts: http://postimg.org/image/7qrawjh9t/
How do I get the game to start and run in my screen's native resolution and display properly? Thank you~

More Info...[MOD]NattNatt wrote: »have you tried to change your resolution to 800x600 before loading the game?
800x600 is not listed as an option in my display settings - see here: http://s12.postimg.org/hiqcetsnx/display_settings_options.jpg
Further, it doesn't seem to make sense that I'd have to change the resolution of my screen before launching the game - I've never had to do that for any game in the past...
Is there a game file I can edit to force the game to start in the desired resolution?
If it's any help, I am running Windows 10 on a laptop with a native 1080p display, however, the laptop is docked (screen off), and I'm using an external monitor with a native resolution of 1280x768.
The laptop has a Core M-5Y71 processor, Intel HD Graphics 5300 and 8GB RAM. According to this website, I should be able to play CF without any issues:

I had similar issues, when i connected external monitor to my laptop and when ever i clicked on join the game,it gave me an error of resolution,my laptops resolution was 1366x768 and my external monitor had native resolution of 1280x768.
so,i changed me laptop's resolution to 1280x768 and i was able to play CF without any errors.
Just make sure both resolutions of your monitor and laptop are same and use full screen in CF rather than using windows mode. -
Windows 10 issue? Any other ideas?
Thanks Natt, Shadow, and MadNade for your suggestions thus far, unfortunately I've tried the fixes and am still having the same issue.
I've seen elsewhere online that other Windows 10 users are having similar issues. Is this possibly a Windows 10 issue? And if so, any word on if a patch is in the works?
Any other ideas? -
There is a much easier way to go at it. Why are you guys up there thinking so complicated?
It's a bit of a Stretch. But here goes. You can change the Game files to "force" it into giving changing to a specific set of resolutions. I'll provide some Screenshots as to make it easier to follow.
First of all, we have our Options menu. My Current Resolution is 1680x1050. Let's say i want the 1280x720 Resolution. (The closest thing to your actual resoultion)
First, you'll have to go to your screenshot folder.
It is located at C:\Users\My Documents\Crossfire
You should see a File called "System.dat"
Right click it, and open it via editor or another program to edit files of your choice.
See that 8 in the First row? (it could be a different number when you open it on your computer because you have a different resolution set.)
Change it to a 3. Save it.
And it should boot you at the 1280x720 resolution, big enough for you to go into the options menu.
Speaking about resolution, sorry for the big size. -

Thanks for the idea and detailed post, M1600wner. However, unfortunately editing that file only changes the in-game resolution, the menu screen isn't affected by these changes. Any one else have ideas? Thanks! -

Whoops. - Still.
Instead of changing the first number, do this.
See the value i marked? (It should be a 0 at your place.)
Change it to a 1. And voila, you should be in windowed mode.
Hope that this'll do the trick. -
