chicago server gogogogogog

"The most obvious issue with our current Portland game servers is their coastal location. While keeping the original servers near Riot’s west-coast offices made sense back when we were just starting out, both the exponential growth of the NA server and North America’s changing internet landscape mean that west-coast servers are now directly contributing to markedly inferior service for a huge number of east-coast players."

"Chicago, on the other hand, happens to be one of the best connected cities in the entire world, let alone in North America. With more bandwidth running through it, more fiber running through it, and more data center space than any other North American city, plus a central location and role as a major exchange between the US and Canada, Chicago is simply the premier place to provide the best overall service for the far-flung NA player base."

my god this game would be so great if everyone in NA had less than 40 ping, we are literally the only version without a centralized server

Can confirm that a Chicago server would be best for CFNA. I always thought there was something wrong with the way our version was coded/translated over until I went to WCA LAN. The difference between our version and most of the others is that we don't have a server in our main region for competitive and therefore our average competitive pings are like 75. There's something about CF that makes it have a lot of peek adv, interp, etc if the difference in pings is too substantial. When we played on 5 ping against teamw0w it literally felt exactly like CFStars's private version of CF, and before that when we scrimmed against others who had ~30 ping or under the peek adv/interp/etc all was minimal. It made me come to the conclusion that a Central USA server would make our competitive so much better.

Chicago is to far East it wouldn't help much out for the west coast. Should be a server near Kansas like Iowa or Nebraska dead center between canada and united states it wouldn't make sense to put it in Chicago barely any ping changes maybe 20 at most.

    Yes, server in Iowa pls.

If you put a server in Nebraska the connections will still be bad lol
both location and routing are key here, phat gets 80 ping in a location where he should get 30, because his internet's routing is awful, which is due to his location

It is not about individual players' pings changing, but about everyone in NA having the lowest average ping possible, in which Chicago is the most optimal location

I'm sure Riot has looked into this FAR longer than either of us and they still determined Chicago as the most optimal location for a NA server
  • Server in St. Petersburg Florida plz

    cf es

Who said anything about individual players pings changing I am speaking on behalf of west coast players. Nothings wrong with a server in Nebraska Iowa or anywhere in that region. It is going to offer the same routing as Chicago and pings will be more consistent across the player base rather than Chicago. That's kinda why I drew a map. All the blue stars are generally where people live or in between New York/Penn California/Oregon/Arizona etc. Everything about my idea is better than yours. You are asking to slightly move the server a small distance that wouldn't benefit the entire player base.
  • .....
a server in nebraska is not going to have the same routing as a server in chicago and the pings will therefore not be more consistent...
this isnt just for competitive this is for the entire game so the only safe thing to assume is that there are players all throughout NA, not just in your starred locations
im asking to move a server nearly one thousand miles lol
literally nothing about your idea is better nor is any of it actually factual evidence

Like I said, Riot researched this for years and even looked into having servers located in the exact center of North America, in places like Nebraska and Iowa, and determined Chicago was the most optimal location. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say they are correct and you are not lol

yes men you are currrrrrrrect. chicago is best place for ping routing zerk is wrong agin

Depends on which part of Iowa. My friend lives like 5 hours away from me and has 30 ping.

I'd rather have a game server located in a more centralized location with more even pings then have a slightly better game server with pings that are far apart and above 80.
  • When was the last time z8 took a suggestion from anyone into consideration lmao
Sure it'd make average pings lower but if it doesn't profit them in any way, why go through the hassle of switching server locations? You'll all still play regardless.
