They are lying to you. They are saying this because they do not want to see you post, ignore those comments unless they are willing to post actual input for someone who wants to learn.
Forums will actually help improve many skills although it won't improve your "intelligence" per say. Just eat healthy, hang around with good people, don't waste your time on games, try to learn new things (in your language or others), communicate your knowledge with others, share experiences and learn from them. Internet is far better than books, but don't just rely on one source! People learn in different ways and you can become more intelligent by finding out what method you learn best by. For example; kinesthetic, auditory and visual. We all learn by different means and at different rates. Try find something you like and increase your range of knowledge in that specific area as opposed to increasing all knowledge, unless you are studying for exams and what not. -
Being smarter isn't what you're looking for IMO, having higher IQ won't just make you talk like a very smart guy with others, bcuz I believe it depends about some social skills that you gain by experience, by talking and meeting a lot of people everyday, not by just training your brain and eating some food like fish which will just increase your IQ.
And I'm sure that the people who talk with a smart way are (in most of the times) older than you, that's why they got more experience in talking/discussing. Also, having more knowledge in different many fields will help you a lot sometimes. -
My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. At 28, I have never touched a cigarette. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because your post gave me cancer anyway.
