Crossfire 2015

After reading a few of these posts it's clear to me the "competitive" community is more interested in arguing about who's better and flexing their egos via the forums rather than just playing the game and enjoying it for what it is, which is a shame because what used to be friendly competition 3-6 years ago is now flame fests and ego trips. From what I've gathered so far the majority of threads/posts in this forum are...

- The team you're on is amazing
- The rest of the teams are not
- Excuses why you lost
- You/your team cheat
- Me/my team don't cheat
- I'm making this post to boost my ego
- I'm making this post to flame a player/team
- I'm looking for attention
- See you at LAN
- No, you won't
- I'm only here to troll

Then the title of your post is irrelevant.

It has been the same for YEARS, but there were actually more than 3 teams that played at that time.
  • Then the title of your post is irrelevant.

    Then disregard it.
  • When most of the good teams and players left (2011-2012), the ones that were considered below average to average took it upon themselves to take those top spots. This means that today, instead of having a decent competitive community like there was back then, we are left with the scrubs fighting each other off in a never ending battle of mediocrity.

Before: Good teams > Average teams > Below average teams
Now: (Good teams (2 or 3 of them?) = Average teams of 2010) > (Average teams = Below average teams of 2010)

    This feels accurate
  • Just curious as to who is considered a good team nowadays?

id like to see you come back and try and get on a reputable team other then ace

you played in a time when, literally 3 teams competed and were actually considered good. the competition now is a lot more even.

    laughable

Carbon's the best team right now, and they're far better than teams of the previous years

LMFAO, had to comment on this one.

To start off, the general skill of the E-8 players is much higher than it used to be. Have you ever watched the clips/montages of the old pros/players from back then? The skill level of the teams were soooo much lower. Even in just talking about aim, the good players now just don't miss shots. The best players back then mostly sprayed because their aim wasn't very good. The Chinese used to be YEARS ahead of us in skill, now it is a much closer battle for good reason. We have gotten better.

There are a lot more super teams now. The old Lifeline that was a top 2 team made a "super" team with Carnage because that team wasn't good enough to win anymore. Hammertime merged with !nstinct, etc.

Since Lifeline was a top 2 team back then with a MUCH weaker line up than the current/2014 Ace Gaming. So, we will use Ace as the comparison.

Just from my own POV in Carbon: Ever since joining Carbon, I have only ever lost 1 match vs any version of that team and it was the 1st week I was in Carbon when we got knocked to the lower bracket in CFL because Andrej was getting DDOS'd in the match vs them and he couldn't play. Then, in the Upper bracket finals, we destroyed them. Ever since then, I can't remember 1 close match against them with any lineup we have had.

Also, no offense, but LPK was also a top team back then. Have you ever watched JessicaBiel attempt to aim? If you watched his clips, he literally ran with his C-Hair on the floor. A player like that would get DESTROYED now. Doop has also never been a strong aimer and I don't remember the rest of the team. (also, sype was in that team and was our sub in Carbon) Now, if you can't aim, you can't be on a top team. You can't just be a smart player or lucky anymore, you have to have good aim, play at least semi-intelligently, and be able to play with a team.

Sidenote: !ns is a much stronger team than Hammertime, and when Hammertime came on the scene they started absolutely destroying those teams that you talk about. Hammertime would get destroyed now too, that's why they made !nstinct.

TLDR: Players get better over time. Even the average teams in E-8 now can outaim and outplay 90% of the old "pros".

There is a reason why so many of them have left the game. They just can't win anymore.

Edit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1nch26KisE look at the top comment. "holy sht, these guys can't aim"

So what you're saying is Carbon will win WCA and make half of the Chinese players retire?

    Truth.

I got out aimed into irrelevance.

The only time my aim was hot I was playing 4 hours a day and popping addys like candy.

This is a marked a notable trend through every team FPS game, ever.

First, basic mechanics are discovered. The people who first discover these techniques (bhopping, asian walking, peek advantage) tend to have a massive advantage.

Second, it's individual intelligence. The game transitions into a phase where individual intelligence / plays define the dominant players / teams.

    ______

In the middle of this step and the next, there is another semi-step. As individual intelligence develops, teams will begin playing more "together". At this transition, you will see teams starting to shut down the individual playmakers by using teamwork.
    ______

Thirdly, it's individual skill. The advanced mechanics are discovered, and the basic mechanics are perfected (aim + timings, in our version). About this time you see the formation of super-teams, designed to counter the ridiculous mechanics of teams who can out-skill you.

Fourthly, team mechanics are perfected. At this stage (the stage ours is in, and CS:GO is leaving), teams are developing together. It no longer is enough to consistently win by out-skilling your opponents, even as super-teams. Team mechanics are perfected (trading, grouping up, basic things like that). This stage is typically introduced by the upset of "super-teams" by supposedly weaker players, prompting them to use critical thinking and adjust their gameplay.

Finally (no e-sport has developed passed this stage to my knowledge), team intelligence becomes the dominating factor. All of the top players are roughly equivalent skill (with a few superstars among them), and their mechanics are nearly perfect (next to no dropped trades, clutches are extremely hard to come by, etc.). The situations are "fleshed out", and most top level players know what to do in any given situation. At this point, team decision making and overall intelligence defines the dominant teams.

NOTE: This final stage does not necessarily mean "elaborate strats". Those are typically developed around the first stage, since nobody can aim effectively. Typically, in fact, most teams in this final stage will run a default, and call things based off of what happens in the round.

It's pretty laughable to approach things through the lens of nostalgia.

Note2: Also, the mentality of "But if those teams had kept playing, they'd just as dominant now" is dubious. Most dominant players in a given game (any game) don't stand the test of time.

Edit: It's not that they get "washed up"; it's just that the meta evolves. If you're dominant, the meta evolves specifically to counter what it is that makes you dominate.

Zerk, I'm going to tell you something here, and I hope you take it to heart. Racism, no matter where it spawns from, is unacceptable. Calling someone an "ape" because they are black and you think they are stupid / dislike them is simply appalling. I know you affiliate yourself with those of lower socioeconomic standing, but you should try very hard to pull yourself up and above that. Racism is not okay, even if you think those you are speaking to exhibit racially stereotypical behaviors or ideologies.

Also, if you dared to do it to anyone's face, you'd get beaten up, or lose your job, or lose your friends. And if you wouldn't lose your friends, you should find better friends.

Edit: I guess I shouldn't say socioeconomic standing. Some of our most prominent billionaires are incredible racists.

Where did I say something racist at all. Are you assuming because I am comparing him to a ape and how his level of brain power is comparable to one. Is because of his skin color? Assuming is all you will ever do. It's pathetic how you are so emotionally messed in the head. All you think about in this world is yourself. Learn to love and be not so uptight. Then comes the side of you where you must evaluate anything you see and judge it. Maybe people would like you more behind monitor more and IRL if you just showed that love back to them. Stop being so competitive where it becomes to the point where you just sound stupid.

edit: You're telling me I will lose my family? friends? Didn't your family kick you out during like WCG 2013 qualifiers because you were so focused on a game that will be the minesweeper of 2020? Depressing hypocrite
