after downloading the game i pull up the hgwc and click start and i see the patcher for a brief moment and then nothing happens. please help thanks

Ensure that crossfire.exe and all other programs associated with CF are allowed through your firewall. I've heard other people saying CF can have issues on Windows 8 but I still have 7 and I haven't had any big problems, if you're running 8 or 8.1 you might try running CF under compatibility for Windows 7.
