What was hatched was the chicken as we know it, the thing that laid the egg would be the ancestor of the chicken (At some point we all know they where dinosaurs :P ). Either a mutation happened or through natural section a chicken (as we know it) was hatched.

This is mostly guess work through my lack of science knowledge :P

Egg borne the common chicken as we know it, which is a mix of two birds.

Those two birds of course came about through good ole' evolution.

Nothing comes from the sky, depending on which "how life came to earth" theory you subscribe to of course; some suggest we were carried here on a meteorite.

I know as much about biology as I do anything else; very little in the grand scheme of things.

Living in a well developed secular country with a good school system helped I suppose, most people in the world are fighting the odds on being.. informed.

But what if there is an egg inside an egg? Did an egg come first before an egg? Are eggs a form of infinite spherical vortex which humankind never ever noticed and the answer is, in fact, an egg? This is eggceptionally difficult.

When I saw these irrelevant posts, I knew that a mini-mod or just the usually annoying forumer noobs had written them. The choices are "egg" and "chicken".

On Topic: I am not sure.The chicken makes the egg, which is the object that a newborn chick comes out of, and the cycle is continuous unless the adult chicken or baby chicks die.

The problem with the question is a chicken is the only animal with the protein Ov-17 which is the only way to create the egg shell meaning the chicken must have come first.

But then you can argue that a chicken egg was laid by a "proto-chicken" which mated with another "proto-chicken" which had a mutation which is where we get the chicken from.

thinking about it another way, is a chicken egg an egg laid by a chicken or an egg with a chicken inside of it? Ie - if a proto chicken laid an egg with a chicken inside it would it be classed as a proto chicken egg - if so the chicken that came out of this shell which would then lay chicken eggs means the chicken came first. However if you class this egg as a chicken egg because it contains a chicken then the egg came first.

Tbh it's all about what you class a chicken egg as which doesn't really have an answer, it would be like saying if a dog laid an egg which a gazelle hatch from would you call it a dog egg or a gazelle egg?

Although I guess whatever you call the egg it must have come before the chicken...
