Need help for a new computer :)
Hey guys first off this is the first time I build a computer. I just wanted to buy one online but I figure as I'm studying computer engineering I should know how to build it. So I decide to build one.
I have a budget of $1000. Can you guys tell me what part I can buy with that amount of money? I've already covered the monitor, keyboard and mouse.
All parts + OS ~$1000->$1100 after tax. And thanks you for reading this even if you don't help me.
If possible you guys can write the name and the price next to it and the total price, and thanks once again.

Said this to someone a few days ago.
Go on to an actual tech forum. They will give you far better opinions on what tech to buy thats in your budget along with giving you better advice. People there have built tons of pc's and have a passion for them. Some forums i would suggest are tomshardware, linustechtips, teksyndicate. There are more but those can do. Also look around, you may find some useful info.
Some tips that i have incase you decide not to go to a tech forum are...get a good PSU (power supply). Thats probobly the most important part. If you get a bad one and it shorts out, it will take your whole pc with it and end up costing you alot.
Make sure you are grounded. Static can cuase your parts to fail if you touch them. Learn more about this at those tech forums.
Set your motherboard on its own box. Theres no static on it. Do not set it on the antistatic bag.
Theres more tips so go to those forums and learn more before you build. Trust me if theres something that goes wrong and you find that you need help. Those forums are the best place to look. -
Fractal Design Define R5 Black $121
Corsair CX 750M, 750W PSU $112
Gigabyte GA-Z97X-GAMING 3, Socket-1150 $139,5
Intel Core i5-4690K $236
Kingston SSDNow V300 120GB 2.5" $76
Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Elite 1600Mhz 4GB $64
~$750
add gpu and extra storage for $250, linux is free
(by no means am i suggesting this is the best rig you can get for $1000, theres always a few FPS to gain but you rarely need to.)
Really, if the numbers fit together, go with whatever is the most expensive.
Sure, you can get a cheaper case and trade that for a little faster GPU or whatever, but then you have an awful case to build and run the rig in which has horrible airflow or chafing edges that makes your little-too-expensive GPU overheat or wear the insulation of a cable down until the whole thing shorts.
Averaging everything is win.
ESD wristbands usually come with the mobo, ground yourself to something if you feel the need. I've built many rigs without shorting anything despite not wearing the pretty bracelet, takes a lot of (un)luck or stupidity. No socks, don't build on or stand on a rug, cotton tshirt and jeans is fine.
