[pudgypaw]Regarding Serenity...
When we speak of Serenity, we actually speak of what it stood for. Rather than describing that here I suggest we take a quick trip over to the Clan Page and read the Clan Description, which I dictated word for word a long time ago:
http://clan.z8games.com/clanstat_cf.aspx?guildid=5470
But that description is like seeing "Land of the Free Home of the Brave" when you attempt an immigration into the US (I refer to the legit immigration method ). It's the members that bring out the reputation of the organization they conglomerate under.
Anyone that bore the badge of Serenity for more than a week is considered to formally represent the clan during the time they were a member. I don't think the first generation members are the only ones with the right to represent Serenity. If people STILL want to differentiate, I can split it by generation (off the top of my head):
1st generation: Sneeze, Bad, Bruce, Jio, [SY]Heads, Cypher, pudgypaw.
2nd generation: JSchneider (he played more later on), Weedman, Kive, etc.
3rd generation: BloodyFire, Delta, WoTip, n0tt etc.
Then there were guest members like Doops, Ava, etc.
Serenity was not run like a scrim team, nor a social clan, nor a "family". It was run more like a fraternity. Ideally everyone was s5 material and had good chemistry. This frees us from scrambling for specific players when certain scrims occur. First we screened for players that had skill and teamwork. Then I threw them into Alpha/Beta/Delta teams to test chemistry (teams were not divided by skill). Decisions were made within a week. This created a legion where people looking for a GG can call home.
As Cypher said in some earlier post, members did not rage (chat OR vent). Hackusations were dealt with swiftly. Clanwide issues were dealt by me on the forums. In the end we wound up with a clan that had skill + respect. This is how it came about. It was more of a mix between me and cypher. I was the idealist and he was the realist. I did more member inventory with excel sheets and emails while he did more of the actual scrim interactions.
I see NO reason why this clan execution technique can't be duplicated/repeated. Now onto the issues with NewSerenity.
JSchneider technically didn't do anything outrageously wrong with member management. I myself told Kenny back in the day (when I kicked him the second time) that he needs to wait 2 months before reapplying to the clan because I estimated that's the minimum time for him to mature (short of a lightning blast to his temporal lobe). After 2 months I would give Kenny a chance once again. JSchneider DID make a mistake of flaming Bruce, and flaming back at trolls (maybe some with SS/verbal claims). But more or less it was fine. He just didn't debate as skillfully on the forums but that's just interpersonal skill. Something I think I'm just lucky to have in spades. At any rate I see that the whole thing has ended, so...
Here's to Serenity**
Remember, we don't have to sit around and yearn for old memories.
We just have to make some new ones.. and never forget the old ones.
