Going off topic in general

Lately I noticed that several of my posts got deleted due to going off topic in a thread. I know that going off topic is against the rules, but what am I to do if I want to reply to a post? Is there no licit way for me to do so?

  • You should be happy you're not getting infracted for going off-topic, fuhrer dot loves doing that ****.

Fizzeq is still a terrbile MOD, you can't really do much against the idiot. He's a LoL player, they report you for saying "get rekt" in all chat, can't really blame the fat kid.

    so yea
  • Of your last 75 posts, five have been deleted. One in a troll thread that was probably deleted in its entirety, two because they were posted in a 2-year old necro'd thread, two I don't know why but probably off-topic as you said.

If it doesn't pertain to a issue in the thread but rather a person who posted in the thread, it's likely to be deleted.
This is, since it's been brought up, also why most of CactusHorses posts are deleted - they relate to the person or an issue he has with the person rather than the topic at hand.

Yes, I was refering to the last two that got deleted, but I wasn't complaining about it. I was just curious if I had a way to answer to a person in the thread without breaking the rules. Since those posts were deleted it meant extra work for a moderator (probably Fizzeq) - meaning I could get an infraction for it.
Let's say I deleted my off topic posts everytime 2 days after posting them, so the person I was talking to can most probably still see it. Would that suffice?
  • Since you're talking 'in general' here, let's say that the two most recent posts of yours that were deleted was off topic. The thread pertained to the topic of "which shovel is the best?" I don't know about you but those two particular posts wasn't answering to the thread itself. Instead, it further derailed the thread, at least that's how I see it and I'm sure Andrew would probably agree with me.

By the way, I can see Andrew deleted those two posts, and moved them to a section of the forums you're not privy to. If you wish to discuss more specifically, feel free to message him.

I'm usually not home until 3-4 pm cdt, I can't match up with the timing of your recent posts being deleted.
  • Utilizing the private message feature of the forum should smother that issue.

You got me totally wrong. I did not complain. I do not feel the need of those two posts being put back and I entirely understand the reason behind them having been deleted.

I thought of this, but private messages would be a bit excessive in my opinion and in this case involving more than one person would be tiresome.

I think I'll just ignore off topic discussions.
  • I never mentioned you complaining. I pointed out that your two deleted posts were off-topic.

I will rephrase it. I made the thread because I knew my posts were off topic and I wanted to know if there was a way to legitimately post such replies next time.

You're welcome to send VMs or PMs, and of course create threads on the topic you choose.

"Off topic" is a hard call to make though.
    "This thread is about axes"
-- "I like this and this axe, but this knife is pretty cool too"
--- "Yeah, that knife is very good"
---- "I prefer this knife though, or the Katana".
Did post 2 or 3 or 4 go off-topic, or are they just following a natural progression of a thread?
If 2 is judged to be off-topic, 3 and 4 follows naturally and will be deleted too.
If 3 or 4 is judged to be off topic and deleted, they'll question allowing 2 to stay because post 2 sort of led them down the off-topic path.
