Try using game booster. It will shut down any unnecessary programs running in the background. This program is safe and best of all it's free.

As I've read, by the way, Skype is concidered an "illegal" program simply because its been used to help inject hacks into this game. So if you have Skype, make sure its not up and running when you try to play CF.
