Crossfire wont load

Mainboard :Acer VA50_HC_CR
Chipset : Intel Ivy Bridge
Processor :Intel Core i7 3630QM @ 2400 MHz (max : 3400)
Physical Memory :16384 MB DDR3-SDRAM
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 730M
Operating System : Windows 8 Pro Professional 6.02.9200 (64-bit)
DirectX : Version 11.00

Symptoms :
When I open CrossFire from the shorcut created on my desktop as admin it opens the "start" page and when I press start nothing opens. I have tried running patcher_cf as admin and nothing comes up. I have also tried running everything in compatibility mode but the same thing happens.

Any kind of help would be appreciated.

  • The way you described it sounds like your "version.ini" file has no information within the file therefore you are unable to connect to the CF patcher or X-trap for that matter. Go to the Cross Fire folder. Default folder location : (C:\Program Files\Z8games) alternatively you can right click the "CrossFire" shortcut on your desktop which will lead you to the current location. Once you are there look for the file "version.ini" if the size is 0 bytes that means you are missing some critical information within that file. Open the file "version.ini" in the Cross Fire folder and paste the following : http://pastebin.com/6vVkXEXJ exactly how it is. Once you have pasted the above press "save" and close the file, but wait -- there's more! Right click "version.ini" and go down to "Properties", once you are there make sure you select the file as "Read-only". This will prevent modification from the client. However if this file keeps clearing the information you are going to have a problem. If this is not your problem please post back so I can give you another solution, but from your vague details I assume this is your problem.
  • Set CF as an exemption in firewall/antivirus..?

there are a few things that could be preventing it..

First things first I didnt even have a version.ini file in my folder but I had a version.dat file. I opened the version.dat file and the only thing that was in there was "› ". So I ccreated a version.ini file and put it in there with the stuff from your pastbin and it didnt work. I tried changing the version.dat file to what you had and that didnt work.

Did you set the file to "Read-Only" after pasting the content into "version.ini" and saving it? I never told you to mess with "version.dat".. I think you might want to revert back to the older one. There is a Known issue which constantly wipes the information from "version.ini" after the crossfire client is started, that is why I said set it to "read-only". If you visit the file again and the size of the file is 0 Bytes you are having this issue. If you followed all the steps correctly and made sure the file wasn't changed just post back.
  • Adding in the version.ini works. I was just in a rush to get to school so I didnt restart my computer. Thanks for the help
