Goodbye Thread - CFPA Analytics
To All the awesome contacts/players I have met/played through Crossfire, along with this interesting forum where everyone gets to be their own little Gods and judge people accordingly, with little to no merit or any respectable accolades, to boot.
For players who do not know me my name is Peter and I have played this game since late 2009 (Long time I know P:) and relished in the spotlight representing our version of the game for quite a few years now internationally (Big surprise coming up for us, might I add!)
Unfortunately I won't be on the forums very much because being a Professional calls for avoiding the mindless semantics and bickering from usually the same people; quite frankly I can't relate.
It is not very hard to create the most intellectual thread in the CF forums (can't you tell? lol) but before I leave these forums and get my streaming underway I thought I would leave a piece of work I have came up with which has been shared to only a handful of people.
I have slowly been writing away in my notepad over the course of a few months and have analyzed many players through closed-circuit games and/or scrims/matches and hope eventually these 'analytics' gets put into good use. Up until recently Analytics weren't very sought after but even in sports (NHL) it is becoming more apparent.
This is called CFPA - Or Crossfire Player Analysis - The player will get an OVR rating (similar to sports games)
CROSSFIRE PLAYER ANALYSIS – CFPA – Peter “malte[gr]” Maltezos
“This system was designed by the theory, practice, and analytical skills developed through time and exposure to the multiple players in competitive Crossfire as seen through the eyes of Peter “malte” Maltezos.
The words in this piece are debatable. The words in this piece may be interpreted the wrong way. But, the words in this piece are the truth, and are a base to build upon to form an extensive breakdown on individual players. In the future I hope this system will be used appropriately and with maturity, a trait each and every person is capable of.”
Before analyzing and rating a player, one must take into consideration:
- An average public player has a default OVR (overall) of 50
- A public player who normally achieves a 1.5 k/d has an OVR of 60
- A public player who consistently has a 2.0 k/d or above has an OVR of 70
- A public player who almost exclusively has a 2.0 k/d and is competitively aware (Search and Destroy) possesses an OVR of 75
This is MY theory and concept. Everything needs a foundation before the proverbial “Wheels start turning” so I categorized players generally to start with, because it is necessary. Without a foundation there cannot be form.
Now, to achieve the other 25% OVR, you must go above and beyond to reach this standing. There are many factors which can make or break your OVR
General Analysis Section (Specific Player)

Pro Team Potential: A pro team normally consists of 5 starters and 2-3 backups.
Knowing your potential determines where you (in theory) would be situated on a professional team.
The list is as follows:
- Team ACE, Franchise Player (More than 1 on a team is a rarity)
- Star Player, Top starter
- Top 3 Starter, ((Major, Average, Slight)) Inconsistencies (highlight one)
- Bottom 2 starter with 'top frag' inconsistencies
- Backup to 5th spot starter
- Backup with specific role (map, side, weapon, agitator, SPECIFIC team need)
- Reserve player
Secondary Traits
This part of the analysis focuses on unique, yet pre-determined skills which differentiate you from the rest. One word descriptions are necessary here as they will be discussed further in depth later.

Stats are like a scale, you put a lot on one end and it will lose on the other. Let’s pretend hypothetically you cannot keep a scale exactly equal on both ends and inject this scenario when analyzing a player. You CANNOT be as good as a Sharpshooter (Accuracy) as you are a Team Player (Teamplay). Not Possible. You are either much better on one side and much worse on the other, or slightly better on one side and slightly worse on the other. Only average players can be completely even because they have not grown to their full potential at all, they will continue to be average and stay on 50/50. There are a few players in the competitive scene who are quite close to making a balancing act, but it will never happen. These are the STAT SCALES which will determine UP/DOWN and vice versa

Describing the Stats
After you have analyzed which 4 attributes he/she is dominant in, you may now begin to analyze the player deeper. Before we do any of that, let's understand each attribute more extensively
Accuracy (ACC) - Not only your reflexes, but your angles, crosshair placement, ammo efficiency, killing time efficiency, scoring on rare opportunities, and overall making the round fall in your favor with your crosshair.

Teamplay (TEA) - Teamwork is what wins games. You could have the best shooters without guidance against the best team-first players with average shots and the team-first players are more likely to win. I could write a book about teamwork, but things to keep in mind specifically for a player is his ability to keep his players poised and assured that they will live to see another round, or how much this player baits his team and puts them in a more vulnerable position for his individual gains... Being a 'baiter' can be sitting behind your teammates to make the first move, or death. It could also be you baiting yourself and risking a man down to your team. There are times and places for baiting. If you do it effectively you actually become more of an asset to your team than a risk, but only a handful of great players can do this effectively day in and day out. It is called “microing” and just like StarCraft, you can micro your player out of combat and let your partner micro in, a good team player knows how to micro effectively. You bait yourself by pushing; this can also aid your team in gaining valuable map knowledge. Pushing and Baiting are not necessarily bad things, but they can be if the player is not very educated.
Clutch Ability (CLU) - A great test in determining a player’s ability to read and react to a situation is being under a clutch situation. When the odds are against you, you either live, or you die. It is up to the player’s intuition and IQ to play the map how he sees fit. The player is either a better Reactive or Proactive (Proactive being ACE ability) player, and in a clutch situation he stands a better chance to live another day being 'reactive'. How the player sneaks around the map while minimizing risk depends on the player. If the player can smartly make efficient leaps in clutching, then his clutching value is high.

Ace Ability (ACE) - Like any other FPS, you must work for your kills. Being in the right place is working. You cannot stand in the open looking at a wall and expect to get a frag. Being Proactive will garner how high a value in 'ACE Ability' they will get. You need to control the whole map step-by-step. In doing so, the chance of death is ultimately high. How smart the player is in being aggressive will determine his ACE Ability. Taking advantage in every step of the map control will make you ACE.
CLUTCH = READING PLAYS AND REACTING – DECEPTION IS KEY
ACE = MAKING PLAYS AND EXPLOITING – DECEPTION IS KEY
Poise (POI) - With every action the player makes, a level of poise is necessary if you expect to be successful with every round. Having a mindset of what the player must do when he gets to his destination is vital. One example would be rushing into a bombsite. The player who is poised will check the necessary spots and proceed efficiently to his next point of interest. He is NOT playing unorthodox and jumping out of the site quickly or running around unnecessarily. The posed players are the most deadly. Why? Because they MINIMIZE RISK by MINIMIZING MISTAKES or being foolish

Versatility (VER) - A player who is multi-dimensional is a great asset to his team. Not only is he adept at watching his spot, but he can journey to the other spots and take care of it. He gives off a passive 'don't worry about me' aura. These players are the consistent fraggers, the "Storm of coL. (compLexity) 'per se'. They are seldom out of place and they do the small things exceptionally well. Not only will they watch a site, but they will push at the right time and aid their teammates much more often than hurt them. A versatile teammate is naturally good at countering opponents.
Last but not least, my FAVOURITE differences which more people should understand
Playing IQ (IQ) - Let's not get poised and IQ confused as alike, they are not even close. You may be poised, but a robot following commands is poised as well. Where is his playing IQ to minimize unnecessary peaks or crosshair placements? I will tell you where: Nowhere to be found. A player with a high playing IQ knows where players are so well that he does not even need to look at some corners. He can also freely travel the map knowing his risk is minimal, as well as distinguishing whether a player is actually past that corner, by using his logic

Intuition (IT) - The smartest man in the world Albert Einstein once said that the only real valuable thing is intuition. And he was right. Intuition is the most misunderstood and unknown trait the greatest players in the game carry with them. I left intuition as the last to define simply because it is very difficult to describe a feeling. Intuition is what normally brings me to victory in times of distress. There’s no secret: Use your gut instinct when you are in need and follow through with it. Players who have a big heart and drive are in touch with this powerful ally, especially in FPS games. Intuition is the key and should not be overlooked. If you feel that you should do something that very second which will aid your team, then you do it. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Players who do not hesitate in risky times and just execute their actions normally end up on top above the rest. The best players have their intuition in check, and they especially trust their guts.
In relating a round in CF with a quote: “We’re here for a good time, not for a long time". You have 3 minutes to make your team have a good time, so do not hesitate, I cannot stress this enough. A player who can do this consistently has a high intuition, and is a powerful force.

This is my judgment on myself, but numbers can fool anyone, There is much more than an OVR rating that should judge a player. I cannot stress this enough, an OVR number is merely a fast and efficient way to see where a player is at in terms of his development, and it is very naïve to judge a player by their OVR alone.

A very deadly, yet one-dimensional player. Finishing rounds and flanking his opponents are his specialty. Possesses one of the best minds in the game. Not knowledge, wisdom. Is a magician with the AK-47 and always makes his presence felt. He is stubborn to use other guns and play a different way than he is used to. He will hunt players after dying consecutively to the same player. Can become overly emotional which hurts his team. Doesn't adapt well to every situation outside his norm ie. Playing A on Black Widow as opposed to his B. His intuition can make him more of a Rambo than a team-player.

You might get better results on your analytics if you move your 50 rating baseline to the "- A public player who almost exclusively has a 2.0 k/d and is competitively aware (Search and Destroy) possesses an OVR of 75". This would be more in line with how ratings are assigned in the sports video games or industry in general. This would create room for greater separation among the remaining population. I think it would be neat if you also focused on the infometric aspect of it and created a dashboard down the line.
