Crash to desktop fix?
Does anyone know how to fix the crash to desktop problem? When I am in-game, the game just randomly crashes to desktop for no reason without any error message. I've reinstalled twice. Updated all my drivers. Closed all background apps and closed all antivirus programs. It still doesn't fix the problem. I've sent a support ticket to z8 but (as usual) they're taking a long time to reply. If anyone has any solutions please reply.thanks in advance

I've had send error reports in the past but this crash doesnt have any type of error message, just black screen, cf closes and crash. Do you have windows 8.1? Because according to z8, crossfire isn't fully supported on windows 8.1. I know loads of people with 8.1 and don't have this problem.

How long have you been playing CF? Did it just randomly happen or was it after an update? -
i had that problem before .. i updated my Nvidia - reinstalled cf and restarted the laptop
try to close ur antivirus and fire wall while ur reinstalling it .. and let crossfire go through antivirus and firewall .. just go in firewall and add crossfire and the same in antivirus .. -
when i change the compatible mode to windows 8 or 7,after few days it started crashing to desktop without any error but when i turned the compatible mode off or unchecked it,game is working fine and is not crashing anymore but only problem i get when i close the game i get client MFC has stopped working so i have to close game manually from task messenger probably because i have 64 bit version of OS.
Supports solutionThank you for contacting the CrossFire Support team about your technical issue.
If your computer currently meets our minimum system requirements (http://crossfire.z8games.com/support_start_game_sys_req.aspx) we first recommend restarting your computer and trying again. Occasionally, anomalies may occur the longer a system has been up and running. If the problem is fixed after a restart, this may explain the situation you are experiencing.
After restarting if the problem persists, please check your DirectX version and the date on key system drivers such as your network card and graphics card to ensure that everything is up to date.
If you have any serious difficulties loading the game, we recommend you uninstall the game using the official uninstaller located on your start menu (http://crossfire.z8games.com/support_how_to_Uninstall.aspx). Then please go to the main Crossfire website and download our newest client version on the download option page: http://crossfire.z8games.com/downloads2.aspx. Here is a complete guide on how to install CrossFire: http://crossfire.z8games.com/support_start_game_how_to_install.aspx. Please re-install the game and try again.
Finally, we recommend examining any hardware or software that interacts with your internet connection between your computer and your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Routers, firewalls, anti-virus software and the like can occasionally interfere with your connection to CrossFire. You should provide or make "exceptions" (put CrossFire in the list of safe programs) so that the game can pass through any security settings you may have enabled. Also viruses or spyware may also cause issues for the game. We recommend scanning your computer for any viruses and spyware's, and remove them.
Lastly make sure to close down any applications which may be running prior to launching CrossFire as these may interfere with the running of the game. -
What I mean is just don't change where you install the files. So uninstall Crossfire first and delete the remnants of the folder, and go install it without changing the paths (where you want to save it.) A clan mate of mine had Crossfire installed onto his SSD and he was having a stuttering problem and now it's gone when he re-installed it without changing the locations of where the files are to be installed.

I've already done that. Doesn't work -

But I wouldn't recommend running your machine without an anti virus and firewall. Even if you have no important data, an actual hacker (not the nub cheaters who download game hacks from websites) can compromise your system and use it to attack other websites/business. And you can get caught as it originated in your machine.
Try AVG, I think AVG doesn't cause this issue. Or use a virtual image if you know how to setup one.
