when ever i hit start on crossfire it doesn't open up patcher so idk plz help

This Happend to me many years ago when i Mutant mode came out, till this day it has never worked on that computer till i got a new one. i was able to play it before also. Now my friend is having the same issue. he recently DL'd it and played it for an hour, one week later it no longer Loaded up after the start button. Help on this issue would be great. so i can notify my friends also.
