  • i'm up to $670 on newegg with similar or identical items, but add at least another $100 to that for a gpu.

a fair deal i suppose, but without model specs its difficult to give a proper answer.

(picked a medium-price cooler master case, good asus motherboard, 2TB WD Green hdd, good corsair 850w psu, budget DVDR, no pcie usb3 card - included in mobo, 8GB good RAM, identical cpu)
  • Why would you want to put a system together without SSD...???
8-core ---> Way bad overkill (are you going to run a server...???????)
Running Asus 3GB D5 X R9 280X-DC2 R with a 650w power supply... are you going to run at least 3 graphic cards on it...??
Case with 6 fans...?? WHY...????? more fans ---> more NOISE !!! you need a decent cooler on your CPU... and 1 on the back of your case to extract heat. keep in mind: the bigger the fan (diameter), the less fast it will spin, the less noise it will make.

Change from the FX 8300 to the 6300, doubt you need 8 cores.
Buy a cheaper CORSAIR power supply, rated around 500 watts.
Get a WD black, green's are slower.
Spent A LOT on the gpu, preferrably the most, this will make ALL the difference in the world for gaming, TRUST ME.

Because its a luxury item, they cost a lot.

I own one, but just in my laptop. Wouldn't buy one for my computer its not worth it.
  • I took it as hes buying a prebuilt from a friend or something.

You can certainly question the parts if hes buying from a store, but he's not.

Whats the model of the psu? Which 8 core? Which asus mobo? Also what gfx card? Its worth nothing until we know that.
  • Just keep the 8 core CPU, it's 2014, will come in handy in the near future since new consoles came out. The FX-8350 black edition is great. Drop the power supply down to about a 650-750 watt.
