Could I make this build better?

CPU: Intel i5-4690 $249
MOTHERBOARD: ASUS H97-PLUS $159
RAM: G.()skiill 8GB (2x4) 1600 RipJaws X $94 (ignore the (), censors the word without it)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda SATA3 1TB $64
SDD:Kingston 120GB V300 SATA3 2.5" $79
GPU: Gigabyte OC 3GB R9-280 $299
PSU: Antec VP 550p $77
CASE: Antec One Gaming $72
DVD: Samsung SATA 22x Black DVD RW $18

TOTAL: $1111

Budget wise, I dont really wanna go over $1120.

What do you guys think? could I improve it anyway? I will be using it primarily for gaming.

I'm getting all my parts pickup from this place http://www.msy.com.au/vic/geelong/

Also how good would this be in CF. How many FPS?

You can improve alot actually. One, take out the SSD for now, its nice to have but spend as much as you can on the actual parts like gpu and processor. And you can buy an SSD later.

    1. With the money you saved, get something like a 280x.

    2. Also instead of a 4690 get a 4670k. You can overclock that one.

    3. Also make sure your mobo can overclock if you get a 4670k.

    4. You probobly can get cheaper ram. if not then nvm

    5. Not sure if antec is a good power supply company. Id go with something else like a corsair or even seasonic.

    6. Take out the DVD burner, you'll probably never use it. If you do convert your dvd's to a USB.

    thanks :)

Okay so I took out the SSD for the R9-280X, i think I'll keep with the same Motherboard and cpu because Im not interested in overclocking.

But if I do upgrade to 280X, I think i need a 600w psu? So which one should I get?
  • I'd keep the SSD, for OS and Crossfire. Crossfire is very grateful in terms of load time if you install it on an SSD.

Thanks dot. I agree with that. I wanted to get the 280x and the SSD so I upped my budget a bit.

Also with the 280X, someone directed me to a new PSU

So this is the build as it is now:

Thoughts? I may change the case
  • I wouldn't know really, I pluck whatever is on sale and other people say is good when I build PCs.

If your budget allows for it and you're not comfortable with the current one, Fractal Design Define R4 is just a pleasure to build in. Lot's of space and neat features, and well-insulated.
A quick currency conversion puts it at $120, but it's probably less in store.

Just get whatever you like. make sure to look at reviews and see if its good with cable management and airflow.

I honestly wouldn't. don't get me wrong an ssd is nice to have, but, better he spend the money he has right now on a better graphics card that will get him more performance. Then later on buy an SSD. since it will take ALOT more money to upgrade the graphics.

Also crossfire doesn't need an SSD. I have a 7200RPM hard drive and i load into my games in only a few seconds. probably 2. Same with most of my other games. The only thing an SSD does is decrease the time it takes to load. But doesn't affect performance.

ALSO, i would still get the 4670k weather you would overclock or not, since you may want to do it in the future when you need more performance.
