Need suggestion for a new router

New house = new internet = new router

I am looking for a new wireless router. For what I looked at I have found two that fit my bill.

Netgear Nighthawk

Asus RT-AC68U

Let me know what you think is best or if you have any other suggestions.

But I use Linksys myself so... lol idk.

It's a small house (two bedroom) with the spare room being our gaming room. 2 PC's will be hard wired but we will most likely use wifi for the laptops and mobile devices.

I have a netgear right now and I get great reception even though my router is at the other end of my 110ft house.

Oh, and my router cost $40.

Well I have walls that are covered in layers of lead paint. Plus we would like to have it accessible from the backyard.

I use the ASUS, or at least one identical in appearance, I don't recall the model number.
Chose it because 5GHz with adapters in HTPC and media drives suit my needs perfectly, as did the USB ports (no need for an expensive NAS) and sharing functions.

Cheaper routers always bug out on handing out IPs to my amount of units - mind you this could be a result of my incompetence, not a fault in the routers, but the ASUS is performing well.


I use RT-N66U, had to check. A cheaper variant of yours methinks.

I think you should worry about that more.
and my router is the WNDR3400v2, $30 on ebay.

Also has 5ghz/sharing functions.

My house is kinda of average and my 32 bucks router worked fine, if your house is not that big and ur internet isnt 500$ a month, i'd spend like 60 -80 on a router. Spending 200$ on a router is waste of money

Right now im using a router that was provided by my ISP. Would I get a better connection with a different one?

I have Netgear DGN2200.
Avg. internet speed (wireless): 49.4 mbps
Avg. internet speed (wired): 51.1 mbps
My router is in the next room but I get perfect reception on my laptop. We have over 5 devices using the same internet and still works perfectly. Would recommend!
