Failed to connect solution ... kinda
So to everyone that is having problems connecting to crossfire and getting that horrible message "Failed to connect to server" at the log in screen this is a ... bad fix but it does let you in game.
After testing out many different solutions to try and get back into crossfire my last solution let me in and that is using a VPN client.
Please ... please don't ask me why I would need to use one but for some reason using the VPN client allowed me to get into crossfire. Seriously Z8 has done something that messed up crossfire with this last patch.
Granted even though I was able to get in my ping was at 290-310+ which is unplayable so until this gets fixed, I won't be playing still.
If anyone else comes up with information or a better fix post it, doing a clean install, resetting my router and modem, changing my IP, ect ect, none of this has worked except for this.
I'd also like to add that I am unsure if using a VPN client will get you in trouble or not so please be careful.
EDIT: I'd recommend not trying this out as I don't want anyone to get in trouble and or banned. I haven't seen any posts or such about this so better to be safe than sorry.

I've literally tried everything to login to this game, but all it has been saying is "Failed to connect server". I've tried uninstalling then re-installing the game, resetting my router while restarting my computer and the other common things, but none of them works. What's going on right now?

You can try something like hotspot shield. Again try this out at your own risk, I am unsure if this is something that will get people in trouble or not and I'd like to not get in trouble myself for this even though this is currently the only solution I've found. -
Some reasons why you may be getting a "failed to connect to server" error.
- You were banned, confirm that by logging in with the same account on z8games.com (I think)
- You took too long to properly log in with your username and password
- You were in the server list for too long
Some solutions to this error, you can do some or all:- Restart the game after it closes. If it doesn't close, close it out with Task Manager (crossfire.exe)
- Restart your computer
- Submit a Support ticket under Crossfire then Tech Support to get more help on the matter
iBikini, and also towards rxckl3ss, can you give more elaborate specifics on what you've done to try and solve this?
Can you possibly give more information regarding this error?
What I mean with specifics are, for example:- screenshots of the error at the time it occurs;
- better descriptions surrounding this error, sort of like tell a story on how you get to the error.
I logged onto my computer, used GameBooster to close out all unnecessary programs, started up CF, waited like 10 min, got a black screen then a "Failed to connect to server" error. I was never able to input my login details.
-end of example;- better descriptions surrounding your attempted solutions (including failures).
I tried restarting the game, but everytime I do it never gets to the log in screen, it's always going to black. I usually play on a windowed setting instead of full-screen.
^Another sub-example:
When reinstalling the game, I uninstalled it through my Control Panel, specifically through Uninstall a Program in Programs and Features; anyways I uninstalled it, restarted my computer, then after everything finished starting up I went to crossfire.z8games.com to download a fresh copy of the game. I was using Google Chrome v. 32.0.1700.107m; before I downloaded the game I made sure to disable my antivirus. I then installed the game again and re-enabled my antivirus protection. I then restarted my computer AGAIN for good measure. Now my game works fine! Yay!
-end of example(s);
Maybe it's a badly written error and something else is actually occurring. Have you tried contacting Support with this issue?

They won't take in help via Facebook. You would need to contact them here:

Of course.
First I did the simple task of uninstalling the game and reinstalling. Going through control panel to get to my installed programs and uninstalling it there.
Second I did a clean install following Saidins post in the "Common solutions to crossfire" guide, following the steps exactly to make sure that there wouldn't be any sort of problems or mistakes.
(I also tired this multiple times turning off my firewall/antivirus software.)
Third I reset my modem and router, unplugging them and leaving them alone for 5 minutes before plugging them back in.
Fourth I changed my IP address through the run/command promt.
Fifth and last I tried a VPN client "Hotspot shield" and was allowed in.
All of the above did not work until the last "solution".
My account is clean and I am not banned on either the website or the game.
The only thing that I am able to notice when running crossfire regularly compared to when I'm using a VPN client is the fact that is pauses at step 3 in the HGCW game watcher, this pause can take about 15-20 seconds before going quickly zipping through the last steps and loading up crossfire.
Also I do not get a "initializing render" something something in the lower right side of the crossfire loading screen, it plays the music and loads and as soon as the login screen is loaded the notice "Failed to connect to server" pops up and I either have it freeze or close once I hit the "OK" button.
This started AFTER the patch this last Wednesday/Thursday as I was able to play right after the patch had finished updating but the following day I was unable to get back on and thus got the "Failed to connect to server" notice. -

Now this is interesting.
Wish I could ask for like a YouTube vid of fraps or something. I guess the most I could ask for is any notable screenshots you can take.
Also could you copy and paste your version.ini? You can find it in the Crossfire folder in Program Files.
EditI've basically done everything like bikini excluding the VPN client. -
Well, this happens sometimes, but my screen would turn black or freeze and then it automatically goes to my login then the "Failed to connect server" box pops up. That's all i've left out, but I think it isn't the problem since it doesn't occur that often.

Edit
You should try and create your own version of events. Any minor details would be greatly appreciated.
My version.ini
[VERSION]
LatestVersion = 1159
MinimalVersion= 1120
OwnVersion = 6
[DOWNLOAD]
server1 = http://cfpatch.z8games.com/download/
[SERVER]
COUNT = 1
IP1 =67.210.208.133
PORT1 =13008
[HGW]
PORT=16666
SERVER1=67.210.208.161
SERVER2=67.210.208.163
POD1=50
POD2=50
I wish I could show you a video as well though it wouldn't be interesting. I click on the shortcut to start it up and it starts at step 3 on the HGCW game watcher, I wait for for those 15-20 seconds, it finishes loading up and brings up the crossfire screen like it normally would except the "Initializing render mode" is gone in the lower right hand side. When it's done loading I immediately get "Failed to connect to server." -
Okay so the version.ini route doesn't pan out.
What about Compatibility? And no I don't mean eharmony compatibility.
If you have a shortcut on Desktop:
Right click, view Properties, click on the Compability tab.
Screenshot that and post it here.
Also to both iBikini and rxckl3ss, are you playing the game in full-screen or as a window? -

Thanks for the help one_9.
Here's that screenshot you wanted. You sure you don't mean eharmony compatibility?
Also I have the game in windowed mode, it's how I always run it. -
Okay with both of you. Good morning anyways xD.
Both of you play in windowed mode. Now I suspect that when you start the game it isn't being placed as the active window fast enough, therefore you're just wasting time on the login screen.
So hopefully this works.
When you start the game up and the HGWC window (that should be the 12 step loader on the center window) comes and goes, be ready to click with your mouse the next screen that pops up. It should be the normal window "Loading screen". Click the screen or click the icon on the taskbar (default bottom bar where the start menu is).
I think that's where your problem lies. It isn't an active window when you start the game.
I would ask what other programs you be running, but I'm pretty much out of ideas at this point. Good luck. -

Good morning to you as well. Anyways I tried what you suggested as well and it just gives me "Crossfire has stopped responding" This is normal though as it goes away and than loads up, still getting the same error.
The only notable thing that I forgot to mention is that when the loading screen appears I can type in my password and it'll show up in the password box. It just hits me with the "Failed to connect to server" message so fast there's no point to it, I also have moved my mouse around during the loading screen to see if I can hear the sound it makes when hovering over a button which it does not.
Either way, come tomorrow or the 12th hopefully something will happen. Otherwise I'm pretty bummed out I can't play. -
Well then I think you have an active program that's hogging window time. When the game starts it usually becomes the active window. That's the farthest I can help you. Sorry.
It's gotta be that. I'm sure of it.
Try running it not as an administrator. You should then have to go through a UAC box to let the game run. After that continue to try to make CF the active window. -

Might I inquire as to how to run it without administrator rights? The game itself always asks this even without the box being checked in compatibility.
As for things that I have running, it's just usually firefox and my antivirus program. -
I've always ran this game as window mode, but after reinstalling, the game went back to being full screen mode. I've reinstalled 4 times, restarted my computer, router, and tried just about everything everyone has suggested.
I've tried clicking the window on the loading screen as soon as possible without getting the error that says CF is not responding, but i'm still prompted with "Failed to connect to server" instantly.
What is wrong with CF right now ): -

It would be found in the compatibility tab in properties.
Also I'm looking for if you can change it from windowed to full-screen outside of the game.
