Chicago LAN

Im looking into getting another LAN going for CFNA.

Unlike the Frost Gaming LAN which was all made possible by amazing community members who donated money for prizes, the prizes for this LAN would be all from participant fees(as of right now).

This would be the location

Now this is looking to be a "Regional" LAN for any players or teams in the Midwest but anyone from anywhere can go if they wanted to.

Time: At this time a date isn't really known yet as some more negotiating will need to be done with the Venue. I would like to see it during Spring Break or during the Summer when most schools have off. Also think about a qualifier LAN for WCG or CFS.

Prizes: As I said before, all prizes would be from the participant fees. If we would charge $20 per person that would be $100 per team. If there are as many teams that were at the FG LAN (12 teams) then that would be a $1200 prize poll, but this can vary depending on fees and the number of teams participating.

We would like to hear from you to see what you think is a good time and fees amount (especially those around Chicago).

Having something like this could help strengthen our scene more by encouraging current players to take notice of the competitive scene and bring in new players from outside CF.

I know this isn't what CFNA is looking for but this is a step in the right direction. Hopefully there can be more "Small" LANs across North America and the UK with the hope there can be a "Large" LAN. Even having a couple of player getting together is better than nothing.

  • 1 - Get organized. Im not helping set up, and having it start 4 hrs late again

2 - 100$ each for first is terrible for a LAN. ESG is having that much for an online event.

3 - Get Sponsors. Gear donations / extra funding is always a plus

4 - Get actual event staff. Live refs and admins, as well as live casting would be a plus

5 - Make the format more time friendly. IE try to have more than 2 matches at a time.

6 - Don't plan it poorly just to have a LAN. Take your time this time and make it a great LAN, not just another FG LAN.

Im not really looking into doing something like that.

This is just a "Hey lets get a few teams and LAN together!".

Once I can hear from a few teams saying that they would like to do it, then I will work on those.
  • $25 a person min.
maybe we can get $500 from Z8 like ESG is doing, add to prize pool
March 29th is the same day as FG LAN, seemed like everyone could make that date/time
depending on amount of teams, I'd say start around 9c, check in at 8:30ish
contact companies to see if they'll sponsor it (stellseries sponsors ignite doesn't they? maybe a lan there could get headsets for the top team?)

There is no need to setup as everything we need is already at the location ready to go.

I was only suggesting that fee as a figure. It will more than likely be more.

Ill talk to the venue as they do have Steel Series gear and DXRacer chairs.
4 - Get actual event staff. Live refs and admins, as well as live casting would be a plus

Volunteers are the way to go in this case.

As for Casting, there are separate "studio rooms" that can be used for casting.
5 - Make the format more time friendly. IE try to have more than 2 matches at a time.

The LAN Center has over 50 PC so we can have multiple matches going on at once.

This one shouldnt be that big of an issue as I am not planning on it being big or as complex as the FG LAN.
  • Chicago is a good location, right in the middle its usually the same distance for everyone. I wouldn't have a problem going I can drive down to Chicago. But if you want to get more teams have a bigger prize pool. GET SPONSORS

    See you at Ignite.
  • Didnt ignite pretty much say **** you to CF when you asked them to hold a CF lan?

I asked him about this, he said they owe him quite a bit of money (to the point where the venue is already paid for), so if hes paying for the player's time I guess they can't really control what game is played

    It's taken care of now.

    I have a $1500 in house credit .
  • Purvis this is really a great Idea and I am down. Don't listen to all the critics! Put it together and it will be fun even if it is "another fg lan" it's still more than what we have going at the moment.

    Thanks man!
  • Make it happen, I know a good amount of players have been waiting for another LAN, and some players would possibly even be willing to help put it together if possible

Shouldn't there also be some "paid" staff that are separate from the vanilla volunteer work?

What would be a volunteer's work be anyways, in terms of objectives and roles and such.
  • Glad you got it worked out

Thats actually so bogus they told you they would host your lan then were like nvm after you sold them the PCs
  • 1. Better city please.
    2. Make this LAN better than the one last year in Toronto. Needs to be more organized. As said, have more people help out and organize the LAN, so it starts on time.
    3. Have sponsors like Nvidia, IBuyPower, Corsair, Razer, Asus RoG, Steelseries, Roccat, Logitech ( Any gaming based companies)
    4. Better prizes, Z8games should also help and pitch in. Teams aren't flying to __ city and only win back money only enough to pay for their trip back to their home.

That's pretty much like procrastinating :P Might as well get started so later on, things can be much easier.

    $100 = $20 per players = NOT THAT MUCH
    FG LAN wasn't even bad

i think they will need to see some financial statements + a track record from jpurv before they get in bed with him, it's a lot easier said than done to just "get" sponsors and it isn't something that happens overnight.
  • Guys it's $100 per team to enter the tournament...

So if there are 10 teams it's $1000 pot, 20 teams $2000 pot, etc.

    Most lans normally do:
    60+% 1st
    20+% 2nd
    10+% 3rd

At the End of the day it's better than nothing!!

All this better this better that accept what he is able to come up with as long as there is some kind of profit or even if you break even when you win. It's better than nothing.

Do your thing J and make it happen bro Laid___Out is in there for sure!
  • My team would be interested in going but only if it is during the summer.

  • I definitely think this would be a great idea during the summer. I believe that participation would go pretty well considering Chicago is so centralized.

Like Zzxq said, don't rush it just to have a LAN. Make sure you plan it out extensively so that it goes off without a hitch. :)

Looking forward to this, I will definitely be there if this goes down.
  • good luck with this, if it's in Chicago i'll be there.

Oh sorry I bought a car instead of going to LAN

my b my priorities were obviously out of wack
  • I'll go and cast... HAHA

On a real note, I would actually go just for the fun of it. It's a real nice place and the people work there are great. Good luck on getting it all set up.
  • All in favor for david being banned from chicago lan
