Cool Quote: He said he was proud of his bronze bust installed in his native village of Kurya in the Siberian region of Altai. He said newlyweds bring flowers to the bust. "They whisper 'Uncle Misha, wish us happiness and healthy kids,'" he said. "What other gun designer can boast of that?"

Though the AK is essentially an adapted German design, it still revolutionized the world of rifles and I respect Kalashnikov for having done that. But he was a communist, his creations aided in the oppression of countless people and I'm happy to see him leave this world.
Edit: I don't blame the guns for acts that were committed by people, I blame Kalashnikov for giving his designs to such evil people. Had he not done so they surely would've found other guns to fill the role, but had I found myself in his place I would've refused to work for them and tried to escape the Soviet Union. -

So if a lot of people die in a Nissan does that mean the owners of that car company deserve to die? -

Why kind of person are you? Celebrating that somebody died is lame, no matter who he is. Death is death. Also, the people who rule this world kill more innocents through economic crisis than soldiers with their AKs. -

you're very misinformed. mikhail regretted seeing his creation get used the way it was being used.

It's probably safe to assume that without the AK47, fewer people would have died.
That said, it's probably not what the constructor had in mind. He made a great rifle, was a great inventor and should be praised for it.
Well done, and rest in peace. -
I don't see pirates in somalia taking over ships or al qaeda popping villages with P90s, SMAWs and M4A1s though.

poor argument, they would just find alternatives, terrorist are using more sophisticated weapons anyways now as they acquire more wealth, i mean most of the snipers in afghanistan and iraq are using english rifles from first war, i don't see many people going after james lee. -

Stupid.Though the AK is essentially an adapted German design, it still revolutionized the world of rifles and I respect Kalashnikov for having done that. But he was a communist, his creations aided in the oppression of countless people and I'm happy to see him leave this world.

Pretty stupid. As if pirates in Somalia would no longer continue being pirates without an AK. -

one gun jammed is a life spared and such.
i'm not saying they wouldn't be killing people.. but likely a few people less.
anyway, that is certainly not what this thread is about, i'm sorry. -
voyager40 why do not you like a Kalashnikov, not rifle killed, m16 more people killed than in Vietnam with ak to hate all weapons designers Eugene Stoner, let us all hates Oppenheimer he killed people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bomb he created.hate them all. or you hate only Kalasnikov?
I tell you you're stupid young punk Kalashnikov bіl great designer who created a magnificent machine during the Second World War to fight Hitler, and the fact that ak become the most popular machine in the world it is because it is very reliable and can shoot even in the most difficult conditions and plastic rifles are made in America are afraid of sand and soldiers put condoms on them or it will not shoot -

First of all, there's a difference between celebrating someone's death and what voyager said. It's completely human to be happy by the death of a certain person. Just look at the happiness of America after the death of Bin Laden. Or the happiness that some people feel after the death of someone that murdered a family member.
Secondly, who are you to decide what is or isn't "lame". Morality is very relative. Sure, being happy about someone's death is generally frowned upon, but that doesn't mean there can't be exceptions. Usually when it's about "evil" people. -

point being: mikhail wasn't what you consider to be "evil".
politics made his creations get used the way they were being, and, well, still are.
there are lots of gun designers in the world, mind you. none of them have many differences compared to mikhail.
they don't make guns to throw them at random guys and have them shoot people. politics does.
the guns are simply tools, just like a hammer. if you make a hammer, and then somebody builds a house using that hammer, it doesn't mean you built the house.
you made the ways to build the house, and if he hadn't taken your hammer but still had the motivation to build a house, he would find another hammer.
now I ask you again, did he shoot people? did he make puppies cry? has he ever said he was against your oh so "glorious" america?
have fun. -
