Cal is epic, consistency for a power short-stop.
Mooseeeeeeee.
^^ Yea he was but was a total a hole off the field but he wasnt paid to be polite . I'm 40 mins away from both teams being in Delaware so i sort of rooted for them both. Cal was just legendary to be able to last as long as he did at such a physical posisition such as ss. Did it year in and out with class. Couldnt believe not long ago some1 carjacked his mother . -

haha its the passion for the game. He was all in during the games. Could carry a team when he started swinging. Cal was amazing he had great defense as well for a power hitting short-stop. And the streak is unbreakable, no one will break it I'd think in current days of playing.
Fav: Yankees
Fav players: Jeter, Rivera, Ichiro, Griffey, Willie, Hank Aaron, Randy Johnson. And many more..
I'm really liking some upcoming super stars in Mike Trout, Manny Machado, I always admired Stantons power if he stays healthy and gets better at making contact with the ball consistently (cutting off from striking out a lot), he may have a shot at hitting 500-600+ homeruns in his career. -
Hue ya better involve me in diz one.
Anyways, I'm a huge Yankee fan and I lived in Bronx, NY for more than 12 years before moving to [elsewhere]. I used to attend home games with my dad all the time (he's a big Yankee supporter too).
I show great respect to a lot of old and some current players. There's probably too many of them to name but just to rant off on some of my favorites; Mickey Mantle, Derek Jeter, the Babe, Lou Gehrig, Yogi Berra (best catcher to ever play baseball imo, Carlton Fisk and Mike Piazza (have a mint-conditioned baseball card of him) would be tied on my list, or maybe even Bill ****ey), Whitey Ford, Jim Palmer, Mark McGwire, Eddie Murray, Hank Greenburg, Tony Gwynn, Bob Feller, Ozzie Smith, Reggie Jackson, Wade Boggs, Ernie Banks, Chipper Jones (pretty disappointed he retired), George Brett, Pete Rose (probably one of the top 10 greatest hitters), Nolan Ryan (much respect for him), Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson, Joe DiMaggio, Cy Young, Stan Musial (probably the greatest player to ever play), Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Willey Mays, [... probably a lot more that I consider favorites and greats of all-times but I'm too lazy to list more]
I actually also favorite the Cardinals, just because they have been dominant over the past two decades. Really can't say they haven't been dominating because a lot of all-time greats has had a St. Louis uniform on during their career.
EDIT: NO I FORGOT RIVERA (realized after I saw your post)
But yeah he's one of my favorites as well. Probably the best closer of all time, it was awesome to see his classy figure set milestones in baseball history. -
Good to see that people are mentioning alot of the "old timers" that I grew up watching. Cal no doubt is in a class of his own for how he played and how he continues to contribute to the game to this day. My favortie era was the 1980's as a kid. Back then 500 homeruns was such a big accomplishment but now its so tarnished due to the steroid era. I still try to get to bout a half dozen O's games a year and love their stadium. Was there for Manny Ramirez's 500th homer though he's a total ____.

I've been a Yankee fan since I was 5 years old watching baseball, I never had the opportunity to go a live Yankee game, and even that, I never will get to see it the old stadium. Since I'm the only one in my family whos a sports fanatic I didn't get to go to games, but I'm planning to go some games either 2014 season or 2015 season, I wanna see Jeter before he retires. (Fav Yankee and player)
They say Micky used to hit the farthest home runs, 500+ feet. (I would believe that in a heartbeat.) I think as for CF goes, Mantle is gotta be top 5 all-time. Imo Jeter is the greatest Yankee of all-time, next to Lou Gehrig. But I just love his sportsmanship and his characteristics off the field. And imo the best 1st basemen all-time was either Lou or Pujols. I would also add Ted Williams to your list, seems like you were going to add him but didn't. We have basically the same favorites and idolizations of the greats.
Yeah Mo is def the greatest closer of all time, I'm liking Kimbrel and Chapman as future great closers, not that they aren't as of now. -

Manny was manny hahaha.
He was a personality during his playtime, and I have to say seeing Griffey play was one of the best moments as a fan, that swing was truly amazing. -
SmokedBear wrote: »Must add Billy Ripken just due to the drama years ago over his baseball card. Forget what he wrote but on the bottom of his bat handle he wrote something offensive and the card got printed without anyone catching it lol
Yeah it was a swear word that he included at the bottom tip of his bat, and it was in clear black letters as well. To this day they still sell printed original baseball cards with the offensive language written on it lol.
Cal Ripken and Cal Ripken Jr. were two greats that I forgot to mention. They were decent contributions to their respected teams who signed them and to baseball. -

Griffey was another class act on and off the field. Shame to watch how injuries killed his last few years. No one had a sweeter looking swing lol
Edit- Stupid amount of 4 Seattle paid him and will kill them in future free agency considering they arent a large market team such as NY or Boston. Great player but no one is worth that amount of $ -

I'd say he be homerun king if not for injuries slowing and eventually halting his career to an end. (Plus he was not on roids.) And yes that swing was the sweetest looking swing of all time. His defense was def top notch on par with Willie and mantle as an impact Center fielder.
I think by his 5th year he will slow down dramatically, and the money will haunt them. (Looking at Arods deal, and Pujols) He's not worth that money tbh, he's best 2nd basemen surely in right now, but his numbers wont be same outside of Yankee stadium. I also think he didn't want to sign after Jacoby signed with us, he took it as an insult getting money near what jacoby was offered. (175M$) -
Derek Jeter, who will likely retire after the end of the 2014 season.
Chuck ****lauch. Guy had the weirdest batting stance, weirder than Craig Counsell, threw me a ball him and Jeter were warming up with in a game against the Angels on August 25th, 2001.
I wouldn't call him a favorite player, but Nomar Garciaparra was pretty gangster. The guy hardly ever struck out. Really smart player.
Edit: Oh, God. Apparently his name has a naughty word in it. Add a K in front of "nob" and you will know who I am talking about. -
TierMunzta wrote: »What do u guys think of the Cano deal? As a yankee fan im sad to see him go, but hes not worth 240M
I was more disappointed and angry than sad that he left. What angered me is that he cared for his personal riches, rather than playing for NY and Girardi. He had hot seasons with the Yankees and now moving on to the Mariners just for that money? He's actually not going to make it very far, especially not with Seattle. Their football is great, but their baseball isn't so top-notch. Money is nice but how many years of professional sports can you live to play? Not very many, I'd conclude. But the fact that he chose to leave a team that has high potential for great upcoming seasons and high possibilities of a World Series win is just making me unsure about what he's thinking.
Certainly NY isn't going to pay more than Seattle for Cano to stay so I guess it was decided that he was not worth the money? I mean he was a great hitter and fielder, had a strong swing and a sharp glove. But his actions just completely took me "off guard". I really didn't expect that from him. -

I really do not believe he is worth A-Rod money, nor Pujols money, Cano's numbers are nowhere near the two mentioned in stats, all though he is the best free agent out there, or was. He is not worth 240M$, perhaps 150-200M$ if anything. We may miss his bat, but he will miss the team more, he's not winning in that team. Yankees building a go now team basically, added McCain, Ellisbury, and now Beltran. Pretty good improvements in line-up. Now they need a possible 2nd/3rd basemen and 2-3 starters. -
TierMunzta wrote: »Apparently he did not want to play for Girardi, because he stated they would put him 2nd in the line-up instead of middle of the order which he prefers. In all and all, he isn't going to be hitting more home runs in that ball park than he did in Yankee stadium, his offense will go down, as no one to protect him in that line up yet. Their pitching is top notch with Felix and Hiwashima, also with their number one prospect in Tejuan Walker. But as offense goes Mariners do not produce high amount of offense. Cano could change that but his peak numbers shouldn't go up by much, and if anything they will decrease in that stadium.

Lol A-rod wasnt even worth A-rod $ -

They want to invest in Mashiro Tanaka, and I think another starter either Ubaldo Jimmenez or Ervin Santana, or if they go on and trade for starters.
