PC builders, thoughts?

Stuck in a rut between buying a 3570K or 4670K. I see it like this: the 3570K will consume slightly less power, both put out less heat and tolerate more heat and overclock better than the 4670K, however, LGA 1155 is a dead socket.

In the end I still believe the 4670K would be the wiser choice, not only because LGA 1155 is dead.

You won't even notice a difference. Plus LGA 1155 has more motherboard compatibilities over the 1150, if you choose the 4670k your options for mobos are limited.

Oh, yeah, I realize the difference would be next to nothing. I'm thinking for the future, though. Hell, I might just go with whatever is cheaper at the time. Prices fluctuate so much I've seen the 3570K under $200 and the 4670K go up to $240 and vice versa, oddly enough.

from my understanding, the next gen processor will use a different board as well, it is just going to be like that from now on. i am not 100% on this, but i would read up on it if you could.

I've read both it won't be a new socket and it will. Who knows just yet.

Id go with 4670k. If they do use the same socket then you can upgrade later. But if your lower on money then a 3570k is still a great choice

If you're concerned about heat and don't care about generation get a 2500K.

I'm not worried at all, I've just read by several owners of the 4670K that they've experienced some severe heat issues with even mild overclocks.

Haswell does run very hot but not enough for the stock cooler to be inadequate for stock or even with a ~200 MHz boost. Heat also won't kill modern CPUs. If you go past 1.3v you'll want to go with delidded high end air, delidded med range CLC, very high end CLC(H220/H320), or full custom.
