Forums under maintenance?

Ive noticed that the forums are constantly down for extended periods of time. Is it going through some changes or simply just polishing it?

Thought i ask here, as i have seen no posts regarding this.

Comments

  • have u realized that people has their picture back?
    oh and can edit.
  • Yes ive realized that, though i am questioning as to why it these oddities were here in the first place.
  • only thing i can come up with is that forum was buggy and they were trying to fix it.
  • ive noticed that 90% of us from 100 post - 2000 posts are senior members

    we lost our baron hood
  • Lol. i think all the ranks got deleted. No worry though, those are easily changed.
  • They just restored the forums to the normal state, the only noticeable change is the ranks for how many posts you have.

Read Saidin's post in the Z8 games section.

The forums were down for approx 6 hours today.

Compounding with some of the game issues we've experienced we also had a forum db meltdown occurring at the same time. Needless to say it's not been fun for us over the last 4 or 5 days.

The forums had to be restored properly. It takes time to run all the proper maintenance tools on a forum. And the forums needed to be shut down in order to do that.

    As a result:

Users who were seen as "guests" should have their restored profiles.

Search functions should be properly working again.

Thread display functions including displaying multiple pages of a thread should be fixed.

User titles were reset to defaults. We will be restoring these in the upcoming days.

Some Private messaging inboxes may have been affected. We may not be able to restore PM's. So if you want to save any of your Private Messages use the board export function to export them as an XML file.

I would recommend clearing out your inboxes of any leftover messages.

yeah, yeah, great. but with all the maintenance and stuff going on, are we ever gonna be able to use signatures and attachments?

because you know, i really enjoy being forced to screw around with imageshack every single time im trying to post a picture.

Regular users should be able to use a text signature. Although these signatures may have to be recreated after the maintenance.

Locally Hosted images are disabled on purpose. The last thing we need is a million spam images uploaded to our servers every 2 seconds by people from these boards.

While we do recognize it is slightly more tedious for something like a screenshot or a hack report, the benefits of disabling them outweigh the risk of allowing them.

We're not your local clan forums with 50 members here. There are hundreds of thousands of people coming to these forums. Allowing them all to upload images like that is not going to happen.

Having said that, there may be some things in the future we can do with ranks and reputation. As soon as we find a way to be able to give those out without encouraging spam posts or farming we will do so.

Until then, lets just make sure the forums are stable and the databases are back to normal.

in the last news, the only spam we ever had on the old forums was: zombie mode, and the CLOD stuff we never had any problems with users ''spamming'' images using the attachments functions. it just made life a whole lot easier not to mention that if some users abuse it mods could easily just block the function for them

and for the image signatures there are basically no reason why they should be rewarded for grinding to a certain rank. the new rank system just encourage people to spam crap until they get the rank desired and the old one just made everyone lick the people who were able to give karma's asses witch resulted in spam (remember when half the threads in off-topic were attempts at getting some karma from QuietRiot?)
since this will always result in spam in one way or in an other why not just trowing the privilege thing away and give anyone the rights to use image signatures?

or at least just block them for mods too so people could stop raging.
