Competitive Crossfire Expansion?

I was thinking over the past few weeks over why Competitive CF is not getting bigger.

1st of all yes I know there are some obvious reasons such as:

- Too many Cheaters
- The Game is old and not the highest quality FPS out there
- The game is put down by other communities (CS Community really dislikes CF)
- Any complaint about the quality of the game play

Here are some other reasons / things I noticed that maybe some haven't

- The average amount of teams has not gone up significantly since 2009, Autumn Assault had 64 teams, which is still around the same number we currently have.

- The Community as a whole has many new teams, but most of which consist of many of the same players

- Teams arent sticking together. So many players want to cut everyone worse than them and have a team that carries them. If we all just got a 5 man team of people that are similar in skill level, and improved together, we would have many more top tier competitive teams instead of tons of teams that last under a months time.

- Stream / Public Views are a big issue. Most big competitive games draw larger numbers on social media than CF. I think we need to brainstorm ways to gain public interest in the game so we can grow our competitive player base, and gain more public support of CF on a competitive level.

- The Players and how they act to each other and to other gamers is a big issue. Right now many competitive Crossfire players have big Egos and it tends to be an issue when trying to grow our player base. First of all thinking you are better than everyone, is a bad mentality. It makes you think less about improving, when in reality even the top players have things they could do better, to improve their game play. Also this Ego can cause new players to avoid the community. Telling current players they shouldnt be competitive or aren't good enough to compete, automatically takes away from potential competitive players.

- Support from z8 is a huge issue as well. Right now by the past, z8 has not done a ton to support our competitive scene. Though they do want a scene, and would like it to grow, we just seem to be a non-priority matter to them. Don't get me wrong, I think z8 has had some good moments, and has supported us well at times. Its just things like CFS being thrown out in a last-minute matter with no sort of LAN qualification gives off a vibe that we are not a priority for z8.

- Competitive events are very important. Id say currently with OCG and ESG stepping up, event quality is better than in past years. That being said size has not changed and neither has prizing for the most part. Elevating this competitive scene will require more real world prizes. As of now, that has rarely happened, though I do give props to ESG for putting up some cash for the first event. I just think without any growth in event size, and the fact that there has never been an open USA LAN for the game, contributes to why we arent expanding.

I know I seem to talk a lot at times, but I assure you it is because I want to see this game elevated to a level in which we can be a sustainable, well thought of, competitive game. Until some of these things change though, we arent going to grow.

What can you do?

Get a solid team, and commit to it, brand yourselves, stream, advertise on Social media to promote your teams.

Participate in all online events if possible.

Go to local LANs whether they support CF or not and try to get people interested in supporting our competitive scene.

Act mature and respectful. This is an easy way you can make the community seem more inviting and enjoyable for people who want to learn how to become competitive Crossfire Players.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Id love to hear your input, and I hope to help with these things as much as I can in 2014, as I work more with OCG.

  • Well, i played CF since 2009 and my Q may looks so stupid considring to the time i spent on CF , but i want to know how i can play in ESL or OCG or what ever Event u Hosting guys? iam from Egypt btw..:o
  • What I've noticed is the leagues/competition itself are inconsistent and not very good. In every other game I've played there has been a league system that has lasted competition for a whole season, not just a weekend or two. This gives teams times to practice and build in the round robin stages for the playoffs in their respective divisions. I've talked to a lot of other people from the games I've played in the past and this is one of the main reasons they wouldnt play. Why have all of the competition CF has to offer in one or two weekends, when it can be played throughout a whole season. It would not only force teams to stick together, but it would give a consistent stream of competition for them to play throughout the week.

Anyone can play, all you have to do is sign up on OCGaming.org for events, or on ESGs website. As long as you make an account, log on to the anti-cheat for matches, and follow the tournament rules. You can compete from any country for OCG.

Id say that with things like ESG and OCG moving forward, weekend tournaments arent going to be happening a lot. Series / Leagues / Ladders will be a big thing in 2014.

I truly hope so. Weekend tournaments are so stupid due to most teams not being able to make it. It also promotes teams just joining with a random team and then leaving after the tournament is lost, which was one of the main points in your post.

Well 3 of the past 4 events were played like a league. Super Series 1 and 2, had 5-10 weeks of gameplay. ESG Launch had 3-4 weeks. Only quick event was Winter Cup, which IMO is not a good gauge of a team for CF Stars.

The only quick events are usually ones that are hosted by 1 person. Even those take a few weeks, but people drop out due to boredom or lack of a good prize or teams not lasting long.
  • I will not even bother reading that informal block of text

I will tell you why the game is dying from an "experienced" players POV

Old competitive players still playing:New competitive players beginning to play

This ratio is heavily tilted to the obvious side, simply because our community is rotten. Once something is so rotten it's not worth repairing, you just throw it out. That is why other communities such as CS:GO laugh at ours, comparing the two and you deserve a slap in the face. I laugh at people trying to help the game, but in reality they just make the same old tournaments that is not helping anyone in the long run. When you think about competitive Cross Fire, the same twenty names will pop-up, and those names have been around for three to four years. I have been in the CS:GO scene for a small time now and I pick up on small things that would be HUGE, I mean HUGE if they were implemented into Cross Fire. First off the forums shouldn't be moderated, it will actually benefit in the long run. Having an anti cheat that actually works, displaying bans publicly, and humiliating disgraceful cheaters to the community, lastly to not bash on people that try to join the community. Believe it or not, there are more people joining CS:GO than ever, the ratio is beginning to tilt to the right, this betters the community, they see more new teams, new faces, new game, better community in a whole.

Not only my opinion, but I would like to think most of you think likewise.
  • Something that ticked me off was the competitive tab on our site.

1 - it does nothing to persuade new players to join

    2 - It looks sloppy

3 - They dont even revise posts half of the time. They spelled OCG wrong on the most recent post.

4 - They only have profiles and brackets from 2009-2010 events

5 - They dont do as much anymore, they tend to overly rely on 3rd parties to make the game more competitively successful.
  • Unfortunately, the "competitive" esports organizations and the people that represent them are complete jokes.
  • - "Teams arent sticking together. So many players want to cut everyone worse than them and have a team that carries them. If we all just got a 5 man team of people that are similar in skill level, and improved together, we would have many more top tier competitive teams instead of tons of teams that last under a months time."

I agree with you on this. Some teams that I think have chance of competing against socks and carbon as of right now are caliber 1, tech play and Mangos. All these team have players with same skill level so if they keep playing and stick together they might have a chance of defeating socks or carbon.
  • I agree with a lot of things you mentioned in your post. One thing that's probably not going to completely be fixed from our game/forums is the trolling and bad attitudes. You have to understand that CF is a f2p games. In general f2p game forums are almost always toxic.

To be perfectly honest, the only reason I post what I do is to troll and screw around. If there are a couple of LANs that come out and big cash prize tournaments, then yeah I'd probably clean it up.

Maybe the MODs should start being more strict? Infractions aren't really enough, it doesn't stop players from trash talking. Banning people's accounts from the forums also don't really do anything because they'll just make a new account. If someone wants to trash talk, they'll trash talk. IP forum bans? Yes, you can just get a different IP, but do you think someone is going to go through all the trouble to change their IP > making a different account > to trash talk someone?

Anyways that's just my two sense. Apologies to anyone I have trashed recently, it was nothing personal lol.

    I second what you said.

We Moderators can't IP ban, but it is possible for people like Saidin to do so and they have done so in the past. You'd be surprised how determined a lot of these people are lol.

You say that like p2p game forums aren't toxic, have you seen ESEA forums?

    gLxt2u0.png

If you don't know who that is, that's one of the co-owners of ESEA. I'm pretty sure being a troll is not the problem here, as you can see there is an abundance of players that use ESEA as their primary method of competitive CSGO play regardless of the fact that it's filled with trolls and toxic players.

I knew ESEA's forum was bad lol. Redditttttttt
  • The answer is actually quite simple. Just look at the major events. Ask most relevant teams and they will tell you they are playing events such as WCG and CFS for the chance to travel and the cash prizes. Several players have already commented that they only play CF when these events come around each year. Players and teams will stick around if there is something to stick around for (LANs, Cash Prizes mainly).

The toxic community really has nothing to do with hindering the growth of the competitive scene. Look at any other community (CS, LoL, etc.). The communities are not really all that much better. I'd be all for more lenient moderation on the forums if people knew how to handle themselves. We still get people who like to post ****ographic pictures and such like little immature children or can't handle a non-personal insult like "shut up noob" or something along those lines without getting butthurt. It's ridiculous really.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

I personally think moderators should be more lenient, closing a porn thread or players insulting each other personally is different to players talking trash to each other regarding the game while making somewhat relevant points. I would also suggest looking over the forum rules as some of the reasons for threads getting closed is just absurd.

As for the toxicity of this community, polleus already stated that games like LoL and CS don't have the best of communities (highly understated, they have god awful communities much worse than crossfire) yet they still attract big name sponsors and organizations to support their respective games. Organizations don't think "hm, this community is really toxic but there's a lot of money involved. I don't think we should help support this game because the community is horrible". Money = everything.

    so this games going nowhere?

I wouldn't say that. With WCG and CFS continuing events each year and with other things on the horizon this next year, I think it's safe to say it's going to pick up. Not on the scale of a game like LoL obviously, but it is going to pick up pretty reasonably compared to what you're used to so far in this game.
  • the game itself just isn't enjoyable and if you're going to play something you don't enjoy, why not just play GO since it has competition

    - mouse accel
    - wavey ****ing sensitivity even if you use 125hz polling rate ( and having to switch to that just to play this game is annoying if you used the same settings for months/years )
    - you're able to bhop around the map and make 0 noise
    - lack of resolution options

Every game has its pros and cons.

For the resolution issue, just download CF Tool from MOD HUB
  • Another thing is the forums and how this community acts.

Some of the "top teams"(imo) don't even bother with the forums because all there is, is shiit talking and people trolling 24/7.

imo if this community were to have a positive attitude I'd say a lot could get done with this game.

instead of letting a person blatantly cheat ,how about kick him?

Instead of doing things your way(g4, z8 games) try listening to the community for once(the positive part of the community(20%))

Hosting more tournaments with real prizes not just 10kzp. make it a perm zp weapon of the winning teams favor. That way when teams actually do pub they'll have that zp weapon they want. How did they get it? By competing against other teams that actually try in tournaments to get the same prize of their choice.

    Try getting more sponsors.

All of that is easier said then done but if everyone were to start thinking positive and ignoring trolls, shiit could get done and the competitive side of crossfire could expand? Idk just my thought I know I'm an idiot and really didn't make any sense. Forgive me I'm half nigeh.

  • You guys might think this community is bad. You should take your time and go to http://www.esl.eu/eu/ and visit the crossfire competitive forums there. It is like a bunch of 6- year-olds in kindergarten fighting over a candystick.

I came here because of the community in NA. I actually like it.(not the uk 3 8 community).

Sure, there are ignorant people thinking they are better than everybody, but you will not find less of them in any other game. Some of them might even quote me and tell me I am an idiot ("Ha").

I like the way of not having moderated forums. Cheaters should be knowledged for cheating. There are way too many cheaters out there looking a bit legit and having friends covering their back. We should be able to report hackers in public. I also used to love the eu vs na competition but then gamerage(eu) kind of ruined that by creating crossfire europe.

I hope for a better competitive crossfire soon atleast!
  • I haven't played CrossFire since WCG Qualifiers, and judging by this thread I would of guessed that the community has stayed the same. Compared to 2009 and 2010, people actually played the game to play the game with their teams, not figure out who's better than you.

You got players competing against their own team WHILE playing in scrims and such. (How's that make sense? Better score.)

    And simply, attitudes.

Unless things have changed.. then I'm an idiot for writing the above.

Personally, 2009 was a better era for CrossFire. Now a days, I still PERSONALLY like it.. but so much can be improved. :)
