Improve the competitive scene

Hey guys just wanted to say a few things, first off I wanna thank my sponsor Jon for all he's done for me and my team not only is he a sponsor but a great friend to us. We greatly appreciate his sponsorship an all he has done for us. Probably should have done this sooner.

Secondly I wanna add by saying crossfire is improving. Z8 is looking to improve the competition but needs more teams to play, without teams or people participating the competitive scene will diminish.

There are ways to improve the competitive scene, I wanna start off by discussing a few things.

Trolling:
Trolling will not get you anywhere, people who trash talk and put other players down are clearly jealous, a way to improve on this is by not feeding the trolls. Trolling will give you a bad reputation and make people not give you a chance to be a part of their teams.

Cheaters:
There are quite a few people in game that have been playing long enough to know who is a cheater and who is legit. Those who have been known to cheat already have a bad reputation and when they are seen in pubs or scrims people don't wanna play with them or against them.

Fair play:
During scrims we should all be positive and stay composed, sometimes you'll run into teams that aren't playing fair and use armour, when kills don't happen people tend to get frustrated and rage and talk smack. I encourage the use of armour during scrims. Before starting a game ask whether the use if armour is allowed. It doesn't hurt it just makes the game more fun and encourages teams to improve.

Criticism:
People should learn to take criticism, but those who give it must give it in a positive tone, when something goes bad during scrims, just give that guy some advice on how he/she could have done. Bad criticism doesn't encourage anyone to play, people get angry, don't listen, do as they please and drops the team morale. If people can't learn to take criticism then they aren't worth the time, and you're jut gonna have to give them the booting from the team, it's harsh but it's the truth.

I'll end this by saying a few things about myself. I started off playing in Alpha7 with Asian players and to be honest I really sucked at this game, through out the months I watched how they played and practiced my aim, I didn't care about people trash talking me or kicking me from a pub or the forums I never paid attention I was too focused on improving. I eventually made friends with Ivan *.*, KenZ and Cc. Over time tournaments started and a team popped up called lifeline. I had this drive that pushed me to improve and be better than them and give them competition but since I never spoke anyone from the competitive scene I was underrated and I didn't know anyone. Till I gave some people a chance and made the right friends and the right moves.

I never played a roll of being in charge and making decisions, "my team, my rules etc etc", I was never like that. Every decision that was made was a team decision, we discuss a problem like a team and move on to improve. Those who know me well like Jordan, Jamie and Andrew know that I hate taking criticism, but I took it and improved on it, we give each other positive feed back and encouragement during our plays in scrims. We stay positive and practice as a team. We don't bad mouth one another cause that drops the team spirit. We don't behave childishly or act ignorant, taking criticism is what makes a team and improves players and teams to go forward.

I would like to see more teams in the future, to be honest when me and my teammates log in and see a bunch of scrims happening in Echo8 that pumps us up and were eager to scrim.

I did this through my phone at work.

  • I read through this and completely agree with what you have to say. I just have to say that I hope that this:
We don't behave childishly or act ignorant

I hope that this is also passed you. I've seen you come on the forums yourself and troll Ck and what not for whatever reasons you had in the past.

I respect you as a player and respect your team for their accomplishments but just had to say something about that.

So I appreciate your input on what needs improvement because I think we can all take something on this but we've gotta make sure we follow our own advice.

That's funny, we played you guys once. You agreed on no armor before the game, me and Musti kept out peeking you so you put your head armor on. Malte and Blitzed were composed and didn't put it on, Malte probably told you to take it off but had to cover for you guys with apologizes and "you guys have high ping" which I'm guessing was your excuse. I agree with everything you said but you should also follow your own advice.
  • The message still tells the same story whether it being said by Tastylimes, Suko, pimp, Ck, malte, blitz, or some random.

What terrorism said is true. Stop with the egos
  • True JP, however if the people posting don't realize that they too participate in the actions they are criticizing, how will we ever improve?
  • You want a good community?

It starts with the teams at the top. They must set the example for teams to follow.

  • During scrims we should all be positive and stay composed, sometimes you'll run into teams that aren't playing fair and use armour, I encourage the use of armour during scrims.

I agree with the use of armour, but not everyone has armour. Just keeping the game fair and balanced is what would make me happy

If you run into a team that is using armor, who cares. Scrims are scrims. Learn to shoot the head more often or something.

If a team is using armor, thats their issue, you play like you practice.

The only valid argument/complaint that I see is point out is is the ping issue. Even that shouldn't bother people now though.

    Sype is absolutely right.

The top teams need to set the standard and also abide by it.
  • Doesn't Help that there isn't a consistent top team besides Kanata. All the other 5s cant stick together for more than a season.

    True, I agree.

You are right. I pointed this out in the Carbon cut thread.

Teams are going to have to get it straight. You don't get instant gratification, you have to work at it. This is the real world. Buckle down, get some like minded players together, and GROW as a team. The pro teams change their roster WAY to often.

If this doesnt happen, CF will never become big like CS did. It just wont happen.

Look at the NA USA CS:GO pro teams... they arnt even staying together for an entire season. Its a damn shame and NA USA is a joke in other esports eyes right now.

Look at all the European teams. Lots of their rosters barely change. Its a big deal when they do as well.
  • As for the criticism section, I find that most competitive players are unwilling to take criticism, because most of them assume they are great and don't think the advice of another player is worth listening to unless its from someone who has been to an international LAN, even then a few more might listen, but time after time I fine that players arent humble enough to admit their mistakes.
  • the points he has are completely valid, however he should really try following his own advice...
  • Some of these points are exactly what keep In Theory out of being fully competitive and taking the game seriously. Not saying we're a top team or even close, can hardly even call us a team and we're hardly known. We play in a lot of tournaments just for fun not really caring too much on the outcome, we like to play as a team with the chemistry it takes to be a team but we do not practice, hardly call strats (when called its simply A/B Push or a split, nothing complicated). We dipped into competitive shortly after the FG Toronto LAN and scrimmed a couple teams that went to LAN (not saying their s5 or anything) and every time we played if we were winning they would rejoin when killed, equip armor, nade spec wouldn't nade and would be a 6v5. Even in tourney matches there is a ton of unneeded trash talk from most teams and even people claiming "they suck we don't even have to follow the rule set".

This pretty much just killed our drive to even try in this game. There is no respect except for the tip top teams such as Carbon or Socks. Anyone below them there are very few teams with respect to play an up and coming or slightly less known team fairly. This is why I refer to it as ego-8. The majority of people there if they aren't winning they resort to trash talking or cheating.

We have the chemistry to be a top team, we know each other very well to know exactly what the others are doing without even having to state it. Our S4 has been the same for over 2 years, Zoso, good2kno, BL, Aero, and have had a solid 5th off and on that whole time. I personally have played games with BL for 9 years, good2kno 4 years, and zoso 2 years. There is just no drive to practice or put our hearts into a match as it's almost pointless because the only recognition you get is being trash talked more by the teams in your way.

It actually impressed me when Undaunted cut Pimp for his behavior. Yes, pimp was usually the top frag but he made the team look bad as a whole. We've actually declined playing them as "PimpDemEgos" was there. I feel as if the next person in their lineup (if skilled) with the right attitude will take them farther than pimp ever would.

I typed this up just as a point from a team who declined to become competitive due to the issues stated by Terrorism. I'm not even claiming we would be a top team if we committed but we would give it a run if the desire was there.
  • this reminded abt Pimp and his " professional " behavior and racist.

too many people just don't care
or say they will but don't
    or are hypocrites

teams should be more like undaunted

players should be less c0cky, and especially 'top tier' players, should be more like Denxi

speaking of denxi, he once told me that if you aren't willing to improve your game no matter by how small of an amount, then you aren't a good player. wise words my friends, wise words.

who cares if they got 4th place instead of 8th with pimp and carlos, they made undaunted look like absolute s**t.

Agreed, thanks for the support Logic, RTB has always been good to us =)

In my experience, its only been the ones to talk mad trash, and who are also not so very good at FPS's... Thats when I have seen some very good players come down hard on others.
  • Are people arguing about efforts to make the community better by pointing fingers and singling out teams and individuals. That's counter productive.

Just take this with a close mouth and open mind. The trash talk, in one ear and out the other. In the end the only thing that matters is gameplay. Work to improve the game, work to improve the team, work to improve the individual, and it will improve the game.
  • the biggest hurdle is sucking up your pride and ignoring the negative people who absolutely offer no benefit to you or your team, it is simple as that, ignore them and they will die out, doesn't get much more complicated than that.

  • Why does this feel like an AA meeting?

    More like a mass intervention
  • I would truly enjoy seeing e8 or any other server light up with active competitive players as when i play fps game I start out learning the basics in a less competitive environment but then gradually start moving into a more competitive mind frame later down the road.. but it seems now that the competition is hard to find unless you are in a 5s team... I cannot seem to find a 5s team to join that has friendly players and a comfortable environment who isn't over serious about it or not serious enough.. i've looked so hard for a team i could fit into but still have no luck.. i joined NTB hoping that i would get my opportunity to scrim with some of the best but... so far no good.. I've not even gotten a chance to scrim with them.. I considered making a 5s team but honestly, I'm not good enough to lead a team yet.. I'm hoping that e8 has more pub games for players with the disadvantage of not having a team get to play with the best of the community
  • I for one believe this community is right where it should be. **** talking, trolling, and other "unhealthy" attributes are actually quite healthy. We all need that punching bag, that little motivation if you will, to go further. Kind of how when our lord and savoir Son Goku pushed his boundaries and went SSJ against the evil tyrant Freiza. Also I disagree with Logic. If players were more like Denxi, they would be abusing any power they could get a hold of. He can't help it though, he's a Jew.
