Thoughts / Suggestions on Improvement for Commentating

Hey everybody,

As you all know I'm actively engaged in commentating on the latest matches with WCG Canadian & WCG USA qualifiers. I've been working around my schedule to do my best to commentate on as many matches that I'm available for.

Those of you watching, I would love to get some feedback on how you think I'm doing.

Somethings I'm looking to hear:

- How to improve
- What you like
- What you don't like

Somethings I've heard:

- My mic; I'm currently using a studio quality microphone. Part of the problem is my computer resets the settings along with me being in the basement with my air conditioner blasting. So it sounds like I'm on an airplane. I also believe my ports for audio / usb need to be fixed.
- Repetitive: I'm trying to not repeat what I'm saying.
- Talking Time: Share the time! I've heard it and I've been working with Gex on giving the other commentator more talking time.

If you are here, and you don't like my casting, I would love to hear why rather then "You suck". It isn't a constructive way to help me. So if you don't have any comments to help me out or that will voice your opinion to me in a constructive way, dont waste my time.

  • I like how your willing to improve:

I remember watching a carbon vs hammer time cast and u were really biased in favor of carbon since your closer with them. A lot of casters do this, wcg 2012 Gex, imo the best cf caster, was biased towards hammertime. You can tell by the tone of voice etc. your also pretty repetitive. Other than that your probably the 2nd best caster.
  • dont play sides, atleast that was my impression lately
  • It's not a big deal to most but what i dont like about you is that you don't keep track of score. if you can could you take out a notepad or just paper and record the scores as you go because i find it really "unprofessional" so to say when you can't keep score of what you're casting
  • 1. Stop being biased
    2. Pay attention to score
    3. Pronouce players names and team properly if you don't know how ask.
    4. Keep track of score not that hard to do.
    5. Not everything needs to be commented on sometimes theres a lot of talking for nothing

Streamers well to much to list need better streamers

So far very construsctive and I appreciate the feedback. I really like the idea of using a notepad to keep track of the scores.

In regards to bias, I think that having my own team I prefer creates controversy. Carbon are my bros and its been about a year I've been playing with them. Not competitively but pubbing around and just hanging out. I will work on this for sure.
  • Don't speak about things that you don't know are 100% true. Its usually small things, but it looks bad.
  • Being repetitive, rambling, talking to fast, are your biggest factors you need to work on.

In a similar vein, I've seen a couple CF casters say what they think the team should have done, when their suggestion makes even less sense/is moronic.

I don't know if you do this much, but it's a good thing to try to avoid doing xD
  • Talk about setups and strats and how the teams are changing stuff up to counter there opponent. Watching you cast isn't very fun because you only talk about scores and get hyped only when someone gets a kill streak.
  • better streamers? what's wrong with my streams lol?

And imo, david is a good caster

What I meant by better streamers is that the streamer listens to the casters to see who they are talking about and be able to switch to that player. Every stream i watched casters always are talking about a player but yet we get to watch a guy camping in a corner. if streamers listened to the casters and actually moved the camera around besides when that guy dies it would be more entertaining to watch. Because we see boring but hear casters shouting.
  • Solution for you David: Release your inner GECKS

    +1 spot on

just to add talk about setups and how they could be countered... give opinions

don't state the obvious, "OMG this player got a 4k with the m4!!!" i have seen that many times with different casters...

I hope that helping cause i think your a cool dood david!
