[Controversial] Do you believe in Accidental Overdose from illegal substances?

I was watching the news and I saw that deaths from accidental OD have doubled in my state. This got me thinking, would overdosing from a horrible and illegal substance (Crack, angel dust etc.) be accidental?

What I mean is, by using this substance, you're knowingly doing something that is harming you. By doing it enough you are in fact, killing yourself slowly. If you take enough of it in a super short period, and you subsequently die from it. Is it really accidental?

Maybe I'm looking at the topic the wrong way. What's your opinion?

    Dang Right :)

Drugs are bad anyways. Wouldn't touch meth, etc. no matter whut.
  • I would assume people do the drugs to get the high. Not to intentionally kill themselves. Discovery channel had a special one day on something similar. People who do drugs always want a bigger and better high so they increase the amount until they OD, and subsequently die.
The same could be said about alcohol or cigars. Alcohol destroys your liver and can kill you, in excess, just like the illegal drugs could.

Not that I support illegal drugs.

Hugs not drugs kids, hugs not drugs.
  • I think that people actually have to care about a subject in order for it to be 'controversial.'
  • No matter the intentions, drugs should not be discussed on the CF forums as it is not suitable for the age groups here.
  • Heres how it works, when you first take a drug, you get a HUGE high. This high is something that gets people to keep taking it and get addicted. However, you will never get that type of high again. Each time to take the drug, your high will be smaller. The way they combat this is to take higher doses. See where I am going? Its not an accidental thing.
  • Unless you're suicidal, it's always accidental..

Depends on the substance and if you know what you're using too. Good example would be someone who snorted a certain pretty potent psychedelic, thinking it was actually an opiate.
  • It was either accidental, or on purpose. They wouldn't OD on purpose so it can only be accidental.

okay no more talking about soda or coffee because caffeine is a drug!

a reiteration for Frozen: illegal drugs with intent to otherwise misuse.

I'm confused as to where it says that in the forums rules.

I think he's referring to "don't promote illegal activities such as drugs" but I don't see a problem in discussing the negative effects as long as we don't get the usual "ye mayn 420 blaze it LEGALIZE NAW MEAN" type posts.
  • It all comes down to the fact of after a while the same amount doesn't get you "High" anymore. So you continue to push the envelope until it's too late.

I myself. Have tried just about everything out there. Except for a few. Daily life now is pain killers and weed.(WITH MODERATION)(Sometimes) But I also know my limits with the different things.

The big issue is when you are introduced to something new and don't know the effect it will have on you. Some people feel it didn't get them as "High" as they we're told they would be so they over do it and die.

Long story ******* They are bad and are in NO WAY good for you. But at the end of the day I only live once so I am gonna enjoy myself. Maybe cut my life short by it but was one hell of a ride.

As for my daughter. If she decides to smoke weed. I don't really care as long as her academics are good and doesn't get in the way. Now when she starts pushing the envelope with other drugs that's why I as a parent will step in. BUT you always gotta remember the more you pressure your kid not to do something it gives them more reason to do so. Can only give her advice and advise to avoid such things. But everyone is curious at one time or another.

So moral of my rant accidental COULD BE possible only given the fact of they may not of had the knowledge behind what they are doing. I myself if I get a new painkiller research in and outs of it all the way down to the chemistry of how it bonds to your system etc.
  • yes, of course.

its impossible for a layman junkie to tell where the limit between a good high when ..resistant (can't find the word) and lethal overdose is.

the key here is OVERdose. above the dosage required. accidental most of the time, knowingly harmful if not accidental.
  • So simply, people don't do drugs to die, they do it to get high.

Meaning in most cases it's accidental.
  • Also they could snag a bad bag of Dope "Heroin" one shot and TOASTY!

Never going to mess around with coke/meth of any kinda.

I've taken acid(even though it was incredibly hard to get it from a trusted friend here in NY), shrooms, and pretty much vape weed everyday.

however, when i tried these for the first time, i made sure i was with responsible people who were sober.
its all about being responsible for yourself and your friends.

This is somewhat true, but not entirely.

The first time you take a drug you will experience the drug at a very low tolerance level, meaning you will feel it REALLY good. The next few times you do it, you'll still get a good high but it won't be as enjoyable as the first one you experienced. As you increase to take more of the drug, your tolerance sky rockets higher and higher - which is where an overdose usually comes into place.

Unlike those people, you wait a week or two before then and let your tolerance lower and can still enjoy the high. (Weed tolerance is a PAIN to lower.)
