OCG Feedback thread

Hey Guys!

With the OCG League coming to a close, we would like your feedback!
If you guys can take some time and answer a few questions we would really appreciate it.
- Did the anticheat lag you during the tournament? Was it hard to use?
- How has your experience with OCG been? Did we answer your questions quickly?
- Was the tournament balanced with the ruleset?
- Did the site give you any issues during your time playing?
- Did you have fun playing? Was it Competitive?
- Would you like to see OCG host more events like this?
- After playing in OCG, would you like to see more competitive drafts to practice in for these types of events?
- Overall how did OCG do, and what can we improve on?
- As everyone knows, we did stream every week consistently with the help of our casters: Gecks, Purvis, and others. How did they do, please give some feedback on what they can do better!
Any other comments you may have, you can post:

Thanks,
OCG Management

  • -AC was fine
-Would prefer more guns to be allowed, regardless of WCG rules or whatever you based it on
-Site/forums were annoying to navigate through, especially getting to the team pages
    -More tournaments/cups would be great
-Drafts would be nice but if they get constantly get attacked again don't bother
-I don't know if I was just using it wrong but for the match reporting system I couldn't attach more than one image
-Streamers/casters did a good job for the most part and I hope they continue
-For future tournaments I would prefer the matches to be more spread out, including the playoffs. Especially if it's during the school year
  • Common knowledge rules section for ppl that are inexperience with tournaments either way it was tough luck for 141 lol we would have the chance to get rip by Carbon but RTB dqed us and took our spot lucky them :( GG, the tournament was fun and good experience.

    The website is god awful

    For the most part, yes
    - Would you like to see OCG host more events like this?
    Absolutely
    - After playing in OCG, would you like to see more competitive drafts to practice in for these types of events?

    Improve organization
    - As everyone knows, we did stream every week consistently with the help of our casters: Gecks, Purvis, and others. How did they do, please give some feedback on what they can do better!
Gecks was great, but the other casters need more energy

Really need to clarify the rules. There were multiple occasions when the opposite team had no idea what they were doing or made mistakes based on ignorance. Also, don't let ******s participate in the tournament.
  • - Did the anticheat lag you during the tournament? Was it hard to use?

It was simple to use, and I didn't notice any lag. The only issue I had with it was that I got a .NET framework error during a match which minimized my game. Maybe tweak it to give that error right after scanning?

    - How has your experience with OCG been? Did we answer your questions quickly?

The overall experience was good. However when I contacted admins directly to try and get clarification on certain rules, I was met with sarcastic responses and rude remarks, as if I was supposed to already know these things. The level of professionalism (for the crossfire side at least) was very low. I would understand if everything about CF was located in one thread, but it wasn't. It was scattered between Z8, and three or four different threads on the OCG forums. And even then, some things were still hard to find.

I literally had to go searching to find out some things. Everything was very disorganized.

    - Was the tournament balanced with the ruleset?

    For the most part, yes.

    - Did the site give you any issues during your time playing?

    See above.

    - Did you have fun playing? Was it Competitive?

I did have fun. Some divisions were pretty stacked skill-wise, while others had literally one decent team in them. Other than that, it was good.

    - Would you like to see OCG host more events like this?

    Yes.

    - After playing in OCG, would you like to see more competitive drafts to practice in for these types of events?

    I personally hate drafts.

    - Overall how did OCG do, and what can we improve on?

    On a scale of 1-10, I would give it a 5.

The ruleset was good. The overall IDEA of how the tournament was supposed to go was good. Everything was fine until around playoffs. That is where I think OCG made a stupid adjustment to the rules. Or maybe it wasn't an adjustment. Either way it was stupid.

I'll use my division for an example.

Kanzen, PDF, AND RTB were all tied for 1st place in our division. According to OCG's rules for playoffs, the 3rd-6th place teams were to play a group playoff to play for the 3rd spot for playoffs, because of all the replacement teams to give them a chance. The replacement teams in our division (sprayops and prime) joined for the LAST game before group playoffs (week 7). If those teams had joined at week 4 or 5, I would understand the way the seeds for our division were decided. But they joined for the LAST game, while PDF, Kanzen, and RTB had been in the division from the start. The replacement teams decided to jump in for week 7 to try and get an easy route to playoffs. Because of this, Kanzen, RTB, and PDF had to play a group playoff, AND THEN the next day the loser of that had to play ANOTHER group playoff against sprayops and prime. This ended up being Kanzen because we forfeitted the matches against RTB and PDF because we would've had to 4v5 them.

We got through that group playoff against sprayops and prime easily, but we shouldn't have even had to play it. At the most, a group playoff between PDF, RTB, and Kanzen should've taken place to decided 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and that should've been the end of it. Teams that jump into a division with 1 game left to play should not get a chance for playoffs.

Also - doing the entire playoffs in one weekend wasn't a very good idea. It should be spread out over at least 2 weeks.

I know that Ryangi was in charge of this, but this is not aimed directly at him.

I can't say, I didn't watch any of the casts.

I'm not trying to start an argument. I just hope that OCG will take this and improve on it. There's potential here for a great league. But there's a lot to work on.
  • Stop doing the playoffs all in one weekend. There was absolutely no reason to rush, worse came to worse you could have taken a week off for WCG.

Its one thing to have default days on the weekend (should be during the week) but to then have the default time as early as 7 pm EST? It doesn't make any sense.
  • Now some reply's to the feedback.

Well for starters on this one, replacement teams were desperately needed to fill the void of many dead teams. Neither team joined week 7. Both teams joined with 3 matches left in the season. I cutoff replacement teams with 2 matches left, and then paired them with groups that would allow them to make playoffs. When I play competitively, I hate having to show up to take a forfeit win, I join leagues to play in them, do you feel differently?

As for the round robin, you should be grateful for the replacement teams. If I did not make the change for replacement teams to join the playoffs would have been maxed at 16 teams, or two per group, which means yes your tie breaking round robin would still have happened, which according to you, you would have had to 4v5. So regardless of group playoffs/replacement teams, your tie breaker would still have happened.

Unfortunately, I was told I had to have the playoffs done before August. Many other leagues/lans hold much larger tournaments over one or two days. If I could, would I have spread it over a longer period? Maybe, I also would have expanded the playoffs to 32 teams though.
