A huge cleanup in the SS thread (xmist is my biggest target there) would be great. Infractions should do it though, no need to go as far as banning, but I agree abut the fact that blatantly farming posts should be punished.

People would just start ruining the fan works section by posting "great!" "I love it" "keep it up" or whatever on every single thread, and I kinda like that section

That would be a solution. If the people continue post farming in other threads then infractions might help.

It's nothing significant enough to get worked up about. If it stays, great. If it gets removed, oh well?


It's simply an activity indicator. If someone is farming posts on the forum, it's working as an activity indicator just as well as if someone was contributing to an actual, constructive thread.


I agree the off-topic or one word posts are being undeservingly left alone, but it's easy to look past them.

I do hand out infractions for post spam. Most notable examples are the casual "Cooool ." here and there.
While I do agree that the post count does reduce the average post quality, removing it or punishing for spam would simply make those spammers post in a very reduced manner, or not post at all.

Removing the post count would not only be unable to stop people from posting useless comments but also would turn this forum into a blog or youtube video comment section of sorts.

I'm not really sure why are you so bothered by this. Ignore list is here, and those useless posts can be simply ignored by yourself.
If people are trying to prove others their worth by showing off their numbers in a Free to Play game forum, hell, that just really shows you should ignore them instead of paying attention.

Then again it really depends on what you consider "useless". I have looked at Warhawk and Xmist posts and in all honesty while they can be extremely mind bugging at times, they're still worth something. Perhaps their opinion, or simply replying to a friend of theirs.
Remember - all posts in this forum are worth something - the time they wasted on clicking Post Reply was a few seconds worth of their time, wasn't it?

Closing this off. Not because I'm open-minded or anything, but this has been discussed before, and many times over quite a few other boards and it's just not conceivable, not in a software aspect but rather affects the forum itself.
Some people join this forum and find the post count to be interesting, spam posts, but then enjoys the community and starts posting useful things.
Trust me, this happens! When I joined the forums, I was a "spammer" of sorts, probably much worse than what we have today. And I'm sure there are much others out there that went down the same route.

we've taken some steps against post hunting; posts in the Clan section and Off Topic do not count, for example.

We try to delete as much of the spam as possible, but its sometimes very hard to say "yes, hes contributing to the thread" or "yes, hes just hunting for posts".

Because its very easy to do both and still be spammy - these not so sharp knives repeating the first reply to the thread over and over again, for example.
Or oneliners like "Contact support".

I don't think the forums are overtly cluttered with spam though, serious threads are usually kept serious.


Mind you, some people have to use online translators to post in english, and their posts might not always be top notch, but they're still trying to contribute and participate, so don't always disregard posts as spam just because the grammar is off.
