How to Install Custom Sound Mods [GUIDE + VIDEO]

Today I will be showing everyone how to replace sounds with custom sounds in several different sound packs.

I see no point of this guide but because someone may need it I will post it here.

FIRST OFF

What is a sound mod?

A sound mod is a file/group of files replaced in the crossfire directory to make sounds inside the game sound different or unique.

Lets Start by getting a sound Mod

When looking for a sound mod you can check places like http://modhub.org/soundmods , youtube, etc.

Once downloaded said sound Mod, you will have a Rar/Zip with different .wav or .mp3 files

These files will need to be placed in specified folders with names of that file.

WHERE IS THE DIRECTORY?

Depending on your save directory the default directory is here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Z8Games\CrossFire\rez

DEPENDING ON WHAT SOUND PACK YOU ARE USING THIS PART OF THE GUIDE COULD BE DIFFERENT.

Some sound packs you can just replace the folder, but to be more careful you should DO THIS.

Copy the following files you wish to move. OR Move and Replace.

Copy (Displayed) and then paste to the specified folder.


^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Move and Replace to specified crossfire folder.

DO NOT.


^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
DO NOT Copy/Move and Replace the FOLDER. This can mess up your game!


WHAT KIND OF SOUNDS CAN BE CHANGED?

Only a certain amount of sounds can be changed. Any files in the SND2 or BGM folder can be edited without breaking any rules.

This means.

Gun sounds can not be edited
GHOST MODE BREATH can not be edited
Certain Misc sounds can not be edited
These do not access the .rez files.


What is the point of a sound mod?

Sound mods are made for many reasons.
A person could be a fan of a certain other game/fic
They want to be cool.
They want to show off.
To give new experiences with the game.

OTHER USEFUL QUESTIONS

Can sound mods get you banned?

No.

Can sound mods help you in any way?

No.

Do people think sound mods are useless?

Yes.

Sound mods can help you turn off sounds, allowing competitive/tryhard players to hear footsteps after a kill, especially good for gm/snd. Otherwise good guide!
