Because they reach out to their community, and get the non-competitive players active in watching the stream. Furthermore, they reached out to the other versions of the game, not just reaching within their own communities.
If you only ever reach out to the competitive scene to watch the streams, your viewer count will never exceed 100, let alone a thousand. -

I get the feeling this is trying to troll us or any positive thinking member of the competitive community. I'll try to address some things here, please understand that I am not directly commenting to YOU, but more on the community as a whole.
1) There is a company servicing competitive events in SA. They approached us, set up tournaments, ran events, asked for our assistance in sponsorship etc.
2) The Competitive community has accepted the use of anti cheats and has accepted the banning of players who have used anti cheats.
3) Players banned from CF have accepted that ban for cheating, and despite arguments those players remain shunned from tournaments and competitive play.
4) We have supported them by posting announcements about that on the CF SA Facebook pages, and supported them with further cross channeling on our website. This is something that we can and do for NA.
5) These tournaments have lasted between 2-3 weeks. Tournaments that have been organized here have failed to last that long mostly due to lack of involvement and teams breaking down.
6) Prizes for this tournament have been offered in ZP something which NA players have clearly shown they do not want to compete for.
We're currently in talks to work with FG for the LAN party, and we expect to do some tournaments in the future, but there was a lot of outside factors that went in to the current tournament going on in SA. There are a great many positive players in that competitive community, as well as a great many professional players as well. Lets hope word of these tournaments can rub off here a bit and we can build on their momentum to do some awesome things for our version! -
they love their game over there is the big difference.
it's still new. people are friendly and are having a good time. every one is supporting each other.
and is well organized, Gms actually do what they say they will do in the tournament, they try to promote gm with tourneys and events. Good prizes too.
but compared to this version.... -

One crucial thing here Saidin mentioned "there are a great many positive players in that competitive community", which is why this community isn't picking up, if you guys can stop trolling each other and stop bickering over small things and accept certain things in tournaments and other things unlike the past few times tournaments have been placed in this version then maybe we can help the scene take off, after speaking to what few pubstars i know the real reason they dont play competitive but do want to is because they are afraid of being trolled or flamed or being insulted 24/7 quite frankly you guys do have a reputation in terms of those area's, if you can just stop and be useful (no offense intended) then hopefully we can attract more people and get things moving, im even willing to talk to the higher up's in ESL to try and get something like ESL versus, ladder & GO4 to allow Americans to play or at least some how give you guys a test division but I myself can only do such a thing if you guys do your part and stop being stupid (not directed at anyone specific as well im not a ******), if you guys pick things up and wise up a little then ill do it. Ive been thinking about it for months anyways seeing as Crossfire Europe and NA have essentially divided UK and EU anyway.
I know this kind of thing has been tried in the past with NESL and other things and I know ESL is predominately European which is why ill be asking for any discussions i have with the European higher ups to be forwarded to NESL staff as i dont have any direct contact with them but im willing to try and no im not kidding no im not trying to be condescending or patronizing either.
Apologies for the wall of text.
