Redeem Codes - DB Issues

We're having some issues releasing redeem codes at the moment.

The problem is the sheer number of people who are immediately getting the code, slamming the redeem button hundreds of times to try and redeem the code more than once.

Once they do that they create multiple alternate accounts and slam the button again to get the code on a new account (we don't understand the social mentality of this aspect but that's beside the point).

There is a limit of only one code per person. But clearly the database cannot handle the intake of people trying to redeem the code, and then immediately hand out items to players.

We are working on a new queue system at the moment in the coding between the website and the game database to help alleviate this problem, we hope to have a temporary fix soon so we can release some codes and have people get free items and a more permanent solution in the near future to prevent this stuff from happening again.

For reference we have given away the following items

• 3 Day +EXP 50% item - 7,500 items redeemed between 12pm - 8pm est
• 7 Day Kukri item - 5,000 items redeemed between 3:30pm - 9pm est
• 7 Day VSK-94 item - over 1,000 redeems in approximately 15 minutes (this is what caused the crash and the problem)

We've put up a temporary solution to the problem.

The main problem has to do with brand new characters and accounts being made to use the codes.

We have implemented a query when you redeem the code, if your character is not at least 2 hours old you won't be able to redeem the code.

We realize this is not the best solution, however it is the best solution for this very moment. Codes serve lots of purposes, and right now we want to cater to as many of those purposes and people as possible, unfortunately that means excluding brand new accounts (or accounts made less than 2 hours old).

When we have a better solution we will be making the appropriate announcements.

Another Update

We are working on some new functions to the redeem page which should hopefully eliminate the past problems.

Redeem code usage will now place the player in a queue. You will redeem the item on the page, and then over time the job of delivering the items will be handled by the system in small batches over a period of time.

For example, a code with 3,000 entries might take 1-2 hours to fully deliver to all players.


When you redeem your code a message will be displayed saying you will be put in the queue. Once that is confirmed that means you will get your item. We will be then giving you the item at some point in the near future.

We hope this can help eliminate server and game stress while we deliver items. This system should be ready for a first-run stress test this afternoon. So be prepared to try it out when we release another code!
