New League: What would you pay?

Looking into making a league/organization with Banks and his other friends. Here's what I'm looking into (I'll add more into the list once Banks gets back from work and adds in stuff).

-Every team gets a 10-15 man mumble server or ventrilo server (possibly, looking into a dedicated server)
-Tournaments
-A league
-Ranked matches daily or maybe every weekend
-Pugs
-MyAC account for all events

Any other suggestions?

How much would you pay? (per month, and how much for let's say 3 months for a discounted price).

And any good names for this organization?

  • IF I ever got back into cf. I would say $5 a month isn't bad. 3 month discount could be like $12? Could be more if you add stuff into it like a forum or something. Maybe get a mumble or ventrilo of your own, and make channels for each team who pays.
  • Pretty sure that the AC is still bugged for people with certain computers cant remember exactly what it was so to pay each month for an AC that not every1 can use is kinda stupid lol. People lagged like crazy with it.

Here it is: - Mouse lag/FPS drops : Most users who reported major performance issues were running dual core PC's.

They were gonna work on a fix not sure if they ever did, considering they left CF so I'm guessing no.

Great idea tho :) if its fixed.

Of course we'll have a site running with forums, chat rooms, and other good stuff. We're looking into giving each team a private mumble sever because the sharing ones create long rooms and get annoying. We'll probably have 1 main server for support and PUGS, and each member will get his private mumble for about 10 slots or 15.

Then I would say about $10-$15 a month. Good luck.

Mumble -- It would be nice, but it's hardly a requirement.

Tournaments -- Don't be afraid to have an entry fee. Twenty-five dollars per team is nothing, and it helps add to the prize pool.

League -- A league could just consist of power-rankings from tournaments and ranked matches, with the top 8 teams competing for something like 1,000 dollars at the end (especially if you have 5-6 dedicated members supporting the league).

Ranked Matches -- Have pre-designated commentators stream the games to your official league stream (with a 30 second delay). Set up a request thread / calendar for teams to say when they are available, and schedule ranked / commentated games from there. Use an ELO system for the teams (with a different weight based on many maps they won...for example, losing to someone 0W-0D-2L is worse than losing to them 1W-3D-2L).

Pugs -- I don't understand how this would involve you. The ability to have PUGs on-client would help, but I don't really see how a league would be involved with this outside of that (other than, perhaps, commentating on the games and streaming them).

My AC -- I don't know a lot about this anti-cheat. But, if people complain about lag (I drop to 130 from 250, etc.), let them deal with it.

Suggestions -- Get a stream if you go through with it. Dedicated streams are the best way to get sponsorship for leagues or events.

I think 10 dollars a month is reasonable if you're talking about a per-player payment, but so is 15 dollars. Fifty for 6 months would be fair, too. If you're providing a dedicated mumble server for teams / players, then I would lean more toward fifteen.

Yes I was looking into getting a Twitch TV and some experienced casters that are suggested and liked by the community.

Not going to work, none of you have the money or knowledge necessary to make it work.
  • The thing is, I'm not sure people would pay $15 per month, as ESEA is only roughly $7 per month and it has a good stats system. This is a good idea though, i would definitely pay if it had the stats system too.

We do have the money and sponsors to make it work and it's better then waiting for other tournaments to pick up CF which is unlikely.

You're 16 and you have a lot of money, thousands to hire a coder to implement a stats system (i'd love to hear how you plan on recording stats without server side access), AND sponsors to waste money on this game when it is going absolutely no where?

At least he's attempting to do something?

It's not me alone, a few others are going to work on this project. Otherwise a stats system is just a luxury at the moment and we're probably just going to manually post stats daily of the players once a site is up and running (I'll purchase it tonight) and work on it and hopefully we'll launch some ranked matches this upcoming weekend. Anyways, how come your so negative on these things?

    Best logic ever.

Banks and the boys? I'd love to hear who is the brains behind this project. Oh you're going to purchase a site that's great, who's going to code and design it? I'm not negative, I'm realistic. Don't confuse the two.
  • I just wanted to point out that coding a website is really easy, especially with the technology available. The issue lies in running the service and getting a functioning anti-cheat.

Well we're obviously not made out of money and do not have the knowledge and experience that both Jon and his staff of FG contain. However, I was just looking to launch a simple site with a website builder that I bought along with the site. Just looking to add a forums, sponsors/partners page, a page for links to social media (Facebook, YouTube, Twitch TV, etc.). Otherwise it won't be amazingly coded to state of the art. Might need someone to design a logo and images for our site. Might add a page for tournament sign-ups, a page for paying the league fees/membership fees, and all that. Why don't you give us some advice?

That would be too nice for grumpy ol Slaya. However, If you encounter some issues, I develop for a living and will do my best to help. xfire: mrbll
  • The only potentially hard thing to do here is the stats, which require quite a bit of honesty as you can't actually access the data automatically.

Everything else is easy. Stop negging, amateur.

Not sure what you mean by stop negging or who it's pointed towards. But yeah, as I mentioned stats is going to be a luxury I'm just a guy who wants to help revive this community and hopefully prepare others before the upcoming LAN.

Someone is being negative in the extreme and its uncalled for as this isn't a particularly complicated project in technique, just spirit.

I hope you succeed, good luck sir.

I just wanted to point out that your statement is in no way shape or form correct.

Look up the definition of the word technology, in what 4th dimension of hell does technology relate to writing/coding?

    Plenty.
Technological advancements, in software obviously, has simplified the coding process.
But also entrepreneurial advancements of course.
Theres very little you have to make yourself these days, most if it is readily available for your needs with minor customization.

    Thank you Dot.

    Ill give examples:

    Wordpress
    BBforums
    Drupal
Php frameworks (cakephp, zend, symfony, yii)
    WYSIWG editors
    Website design services
    .net framework

    you're cute patrik

    1) software that could even remotely be able to help make a league would not suffice for integration with the anticheat.

    2) the buffoons who will be using the software would have no idea how to use it.

how the <removed> is technological advancements in 'soft'ware going to help buffoons who can barely start CrossFire? good thinking mate.

I doubt they're looking to integrate the entire website with the anticheat.
And any adjustments for the anticheat api, if any, can surely be made by competent people such as the ones who made the anticheat.

Theres like nothing complicated about this, it just takes time and good will.

    1. That is where a developer would be needed and the most complex aspect. (It isn't overly complex from the web standpoint, more so from the anti-cheat. Sending the data would be easiest in a string or a JSON object and then decoding it server side)

    2. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to set-up and configure a website with forums/registrations/ecommerce. It is a 15 minute job at most. Thousands of photographers and bloggers do it every year.
  • $10 a month, $25 for 3 months sounds good to me.

This is probably the most random list I have ever seen.

You are listing content management systems, you think there is modules/plugins readily available for updating league scores/match scores or even able to be integrated into your anticheat without some coding? Think again.

WordPress/Drupal/etc is for making websites like blogs, the people who make good websites using those CMS usually code their own modules. (Manual coding required, if you can find a plugin that will update matches automatically from your custom coded anticheat then I am Sarah Jessica Parker.)

Unless you want to add EVERYTHING manually then your best hope would be to code your own modules and get it integrated.

I doubt you know a single thing you are talking about, listing things that would only help if you were running a simple website or blog. Not a league. Please do not even start with the free web builders.. *facepalm*

if you say so, I have built sites with forumers/ecommerce that could handle a league. The issue is tracking and displaying the data which requires a custom module. The module would be easily to run server side. The issue is tracking scores and sending the data to the website without server access on crossfire. Most likely it is not feasible without server access, Unless you take screen shots and parse them which is slow and inefficient.

Tldr; making the league website = easy. Tracking scores and matches = very difficult. Instead of *****ing, why not do something to help? If you have no faith in it, do it your damn self or shut up. Your half the reason the community is ****. Every time someone tries to do something you come in and **** and moan.

But I am done discussing it. I am going to do what I can to help and if it works. Great! If not, at least the effort was made and I can say I did something other than *****

I'm stating the truth and you getting rustled over it is pretty humorous. Yes I'm definitely the reason the community is shit, idiots like you can't handle the truth so you try to make yourself think it's me being negative and bitching, newsflash hot shot you're wrong and I'm right.

Also, please learn the difference between your and you're. No wonder syracuse has a 50% acceptance rate. Even klutchkiller could get in.
