Cherry MX-Blue VS Cherry MX-Red

I know what they are and the difference between them.

I just want to know what are your recommendations on which one to choose when playing fps games like CrossFire and Counter Strike and also which one do you use?

I'm also deciding on if I should get the:
Razer BlackWidow 2013 Expert Mechanical
-VS-
CM Storm Quick Fire tk

I think I'd prefer Blue or red more.

I'm leaning more towards the red cause its light but CM Storm keyboards have no macros for CS:GO
  • Normal Dell keyboard is fine. I befer mionix and steelseries keyboard
  • Steelseries 6gv2 red edition. i have it and it's awesome.

what? i'm pretty sure you don't know what the term macro means...

stop thinking a keyboard will make you do better in video games btw, i use a logitech k300 (10$ keyboard) and i played css/cf eu on a high level with that.

I used to ride one to school, only one with a cool scooter.
  • I have bought both a Razer BlackWidow (blue switch) and a Filco Majestouch2 (red switch) for playing rhythm games. In my humble opinion, the red switch is far better than the blue switch, especially for playing FPS. The blue switch's extra activation force is likely not the reason why the red switch is easier to use; the reason is because of the tactile "bump" on the blue switches, and the fact that the activation point is actually beneath its release point.

The tactile bump forces you to apply more force to activate the key after you've pushed the key in about half-way, which feels quite annoying to me because of the inconsistency. However, the most ultimately annoying aspect of the blue switches are the activation points. Having to release the key at a higher point than you push it in to activate is a huge pain in the ass, especially for WASD movement, at least for me. The BlackWidow's build quality sucks, too, so you should probably buy from a more reputable vendor, such as Leopold or Filco. I also don't like the BlackWidow's layout, since it's not standard and is much larger than a normal keyboard, but that might be nitpicking.

I much prefer linear keys like the reds. I can much more quickly click in rapid succession with these, and I'm much, much better at any type of movement in video games with them.

However, both maveloff and Cookiezi (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYesuQugFOM) use blue switches, and they are far better than me in both FPS and rhythm games, respectively. I'd say that, if possible, you should try out all different switches before coming to a decision. Also, don't come here to try to figure out what kind of keyboard to buy, since nobody on this forum knows what they are talking about. Go to overclock.net or 4chan's /g/ (Technology) board to find people better educated on the topic of mechanical keyboards.

Oh, and another video of fast speed with blue switches just because it's cool and sounds sexy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-3phIDjo9o

If anything, don't listen to the people who say that a better keyboard will have no effect on gameplay. It will.
  • if you decide on blue get brown

    unless you like obnoxious clicking

While blue switch and brown switch are similar, I wouldn't say they are really the same. They're almost an in-between of red and blue, but not quite.

Like I said in my post, check out overclock.net and /g/ to find some educated opinions about what type of keyboard would be best for you.

Oh, and in my opinion, all Cherry switches are loud. Blues are just a bit louder than the rest. Here's how loud browns sound: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOSAhCB6s7g

    Thanks for that post.

Smartest post I've read in a looong time.

You're right I shouldn't ask for recommendations in a poor community forum like this.

Thanks again for your input. I'll keep those in mind.

One thing I forgot to mention, though: blue switches are fun to type on.

Like I said in my first post.

I already know what all the MX-switches do. I can easily search them up on overclock. Which i did already. You didn't need to type that much.

    But thanks for your recommendations.
