Each player can input music files into a folder of some sort and listen
to them ingame.

Can't you just turn on your music player and mute the CF sounds?

You can already do that. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Z8Games\CrossFire\rez\BGM (or wherever you installed CrossFire then add the end onto it) and change the mp3 files to your own ones. You have to keep the file names though.
