Crater Crystal Crate Strategy.
No farming or help from friends required. You could pull this off with 3 randoms that are average at ZM. Good enough to make it to the end at least. Depending on how good you are at the map you could also pull this off with No revives and no hypos, but that may take some practice at first. This is the strategy i use and it works like a charm so i figured I'd share, though its more for people that struggle with High Scores on this map. So let's get into it.
Class Set up:
- I recommend taking off your regular nade before you start. Seeing as how it does VERY minimal damage. Plus it'll be easier to pick up nades without having to throw away yours first.
- For melee i HIGHLY recommend the shovel. Its damage is devastating when using the F boost. However, if you don't own a shovel, a kris or axe should do fine. I don't recommend a knife though.
- Head and Body Armor makes a HUGE difference in the amount of damage you take. Combine they reduce the amount of damage taken by half if I'm not mistaken. Its defiantly a plus to have when going for high scores.
- Weapons is all personal preference. I run with Thompson and Dual green deagals. Other weapons decent for this would include things like RPK, M14, M4, Scar Light, anything with a decent rate of fire and reload rate. Again though, its all personal preference.
Wave 1-4:
Shoot as many zombies as you can as they spawn. (You can shoot zombies before then visually appear when they show up as red dots on the mini map)
Wave 5:
Kill as many zombies as you can this wave, but the main thing you wanna do is get as much damage as possible on the mini boss. As soon as he spawns focus all of you attention on him. Pick up a nade at the end of the wave if you can.
Wave 6-9:
You want to attract as many Dreads and Scorchers as you can saving the weaker zombies for last. (NOTE: Shoot the Scorchers dead instead of letting them blow themselves up. You could lose out on points) Shoot them once or twice to get them to follow you, then pick them off aiming for the head.
Wave 10:
Nade the mutants as they spawn and finish them off with your melee F boost. As the Mini Boss spawns, get as many melee shots on him as you can and finish him off with your gun. Pick up a nade at the end of the wave if you can.
Wave 11-12:
Attract as many Dreads and Scorchers as you can picking them off with head shots. Pick up what ever weaker zombies are left. On wave 12 when there are 3-4 left reload your weapon and make your way to the 2nd lvl of the map.
Wave 13:
Attract as many Dreads as you can with your secondary, switch to your main and pick them off with head shots.
Wave 14:
Head back down to the ground floor and continue attracting the stronger zombies, picking them off, then focusing on weaker zombies last.
Wave 15:
Nade the Mutants as they spawn, finishing them off with your gun. Pick off what ever weaker zombies remain.
Wave 16:
Wait until the Mutants visually appear. Turn your F boost on and melee as many as possible. Finish off what ever weaker zombies remain with your gun.
Wave 17:
Takes a bit of team work lol, but get you team to the 2nd lvl under the Gatling gun (Get 1 on the Gat if possible). This way all the crawlers are going in one direction and you guys can pick them off as a team. Much easier then having them all spread.
Wave 18:
Attract as many of the stronger zombies as possible, picking them off, saving the weaker ones for last.
Wave19: BONUS WAVE
It's very important that you succeed both of the bonus waves. Those could be the difference in you getting a crystal or being 5-10k off. For this bonus wave though, you want to repeat what you did for wave 17. If you work as a team it should be no problem at all. After the wave be sure to make a quick reload and head back up to the 2nd lvl.
Wave 20:
Kill as many zombies as you can spawning from the metro and tunnel. Stay up and divert your attention to the zombies spawning on the ground floor. Kill them as they make their way up the metro. When there is only 1 zombie left Warmonger will make his appearance. Turn on your F boost and get a many melee shots on him as you can. Be careful of his quick punch which can deal 20hp of damage. Be sure to circle him as you melee making it harder for him to hit you. His charge attack is easy enough to dodge though. Finish off what ever is left of him with your weapon and grab a nade.
Wave 21:
Nade the Dreads as they spawn on the ground floor, finishing them off with your gun. QUICKLY back up to the 2nd lvl and attract as many Scorchers (being careful not the set them off) and Mutants and possible. Focus your shots on the Mutants first as they can speed boost and pick off the Scorchers second. Finish off any weaker zombies left.
Wave 22:
All ghost wave. They are very hard to see, can move fast, and strike pretty fast as well. Be sure to watch the mini map for their location rather then squinting trying to see them lol.
I prefer to stay on the 2nd lvl and kill the ghosts that spawn from the metro and the tunnel first. Then kill the ghost that are making their way up to you. Very easy wave really.
Wave 23:
All Scorchers spawn this wave so it's important to attract them first (This way they will pass up the other people [not getting set off] and follow you). Be sure to constantly be moving back as you shoot and try not to get boxed in.
Wave 24:
Same deal with the scorchers, but dreads also spawn. Get as many scorchers as you can, then use your F boost to melee the Dreads for some quick points.
Wave 25:
(NOTE: No one can enter a zm room after this wave, so your stuck with who ever is in there for the rest of the game. Other important note is your score multiplier. It increases for the number of people in the room [1-x1, 2-x5, 3-x10, 4-x20]. You want a x20 at all times to ensure the most amount of points possible. If you notice someone doing poor with low x1 lives left or x0 going into the 23rd-24th wave you may wanna kick them to get a fresh person to last the rest of the game. The LAST thing you want is for them to die on 26 or 27 cause then this would all be for nothing. So idk if you wanna ask them if they have hypos to last or tokens, or what. I personally kick Lol and hope a decent random will come in, but yea now back to the strat.)
Head to the second lvl and shoot the Gorillas as they spawn, getting them to follow you. They aren't that fast and aren't that strong so pick them off quick and get the 4 that spawn on the third lvl if u can. Be sure to pick up a nade at the end of the wave.
Wave 26:
Very hard what to make of this wave since there is a little of every single type of zombie on this wave. I like to start out with the Gorillas that spawn on the ground floor. From there it's all about getting to zombies first before your teammates do. I really don't have a specific strat for this wave, but i like to stay on the ground floor attracting as many Dreads, Mutants, and Gorillas as i can. Be sure to kill any Crawlers that may be chasing you first as how they are MUCH faster then all the other zombies and also have a faster attack. Also be sure not to die this wave, as you will lose the nade you picked up at the end of wave 25. You will need it next wave.
Wave 27:
Nade the group of dreads on the ground floor as they come out of their spawn. Finish them of with your gun. From there, its all over getting to the bigger zombies first lol. Sorry i dont have a decent strat for these waves, but its kinda chaotic with all the different type of zombies that spawn. Use your map to not get cornered and gather groups before laying into them with shots. It may be tempting to use, but save your F boost for wave 28. It will come in MUCH MORE handy.
Wave 28: Almost there xD
Start out by draining the 2 Scorchers that spawn on the ground floor. Then quickly focusing the attention on the 2 mutants that spawn right after. Move up to the second lvl as more zombies begin to spawn. You wanna wait for a huge group of dreads to spawn on the ground floor. As soon a you see them, turn on your F boost, go behind them as they make their way up the metro to the 2nd lvl and start slashing away with you left click from behind for some huge points. With the remaining adrenaline, be sure to target any other mutants and Gorillas that may be near. Continue killing any extra zombie left until your down to about 10 or so. Reload and head for the very top. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you make it clear to your team to LEAVE at least 1 mutant alive, so all of you have a chance to make it to the top floor for the last bonus wave.
Wave 29: BONUS WAVE
A very easy wave really as long as all of you made it up. If you can, grab the gatling gun for some extra points. You really don't wanna start to spray until the gorillas start to make it across the 2 signs though. Don't be afraid to ditch the gun if they get to close because they will overrun you. Basically keep moving back and spraying as they run to you in a line xD. Should be able to get this done with plenty of time to spare. An easy 120k to put you over or VERY close to the 550k mark. If your around 530k don't worry, you'll still have plenty of points to spare when you attack the boss. At this point, if you're close to dying (preferably x2 lives -10hp), just jump off the top floor to the ground and suicide. Unless your at x1 or x0 in which you should heal obviously xD.
BOSS WAVE:
Almost there!!! go to the gorund floor and pick up a nade. DO NOT SHOOT THE ZOMBIES THAT SPAWN. Leave that to the random people you are playing with. You don't want 20 zombies surrounding you when you're attacking the boss. Even though the boss is incredibly easy by himself, afew dozen zombies on your butt can change that so don't do it. After you grab your nade, head over to the corner where Warmonger is pounding on the wall. The zombies should ignore you, however if a few do come your way, just run around them til Warmonger breaks through. They second he does, spray him down that way his attention is focused on you. If zombies are still on your butt, throw your nade to the ground to get them off you. Turn on your F boost and swing away at his face (This is where i HIGHLY recommend a shovel). As he shoots his rockets in there air allow them you lock on to you with little movement. The second they lock on, get as far away as possible. You make take 1-4hp of damage (literally) but its nothing. After his missile attack he will attempt to charge you so be sure to keep moving even after the missiles miss/graze you. As he goes for another missile attack take out your gun a spray at his face. From here its a literal rinse and repeat, being careful not to get hit. By the time you get your adrenaline bar filled again he should be close to death. Depending on the help you get from your teammates, you should be able to get between 35-50k of points. CONGRATZ ON YOUR CRYSTAL!!! Hopefully you win a Mini Gold or MG3. If not rinse and repeat the method.
Final thoughts:
-Be sure to keep distance. Im not talking like half way across the map xD but so zombies like Dreads (which have a huge range) don't hit you. The less damage you take the better.
-Be sure to reload after every wave. That last thing you want is to run out of ammo mid wave and have to make an unnecessary trip to the ammo station.
-Use your map. Its a very important tool (especially in the later waves) to see where zombies are so you can maneuver around them and not get boxed in. Look ahead to see where more zombies are as your shooting current ones in your face.
-SPEED. I cant stress how important it is to be fast lol. You have to be the first one to the kills. Aggression with pin point aim to get them out your face. Head shots do way more damage then body shots.
-Practice makes perfect. If you find the strat hard at first then dont worry and just try again. You will get better with practice.
This is a tutorial for new zm crater players/ casual zm'ers that were thinking of going for a crystal. NOT for you people with 500+ wins talking about how easy the map is. Yes, i know its easy. This isn't for you

Great guide maniac I almost do the same except for wave 26-28 where I like to stay down and turn around the ammo car but you use the F skills well during these waves, unlike me because I haven't found the best time to use it :S. And also at the wave 27, as I told you I prefer spray on dread in the train and throw the nade on gorillas from there, that's make the 5 gorillas coming to me while I'm still shooting on dread.
As you said the shovel is probably the BEST melee you could use with the F skill, it does 6500 points per Right click in the head so with that you can easily get 30K on mini warmonger and 60K on final boss.
And for the wave 30 I like to start the wave with 10/20hp x1 or x2, then I wait until the boss spawns, Spray on it and once I die, I turn on my F skill and rush on it with 100 hp.
Btw I just noticed 2 minuscules mistakes : On wave 25 there are 4 gorrilas on 3rd lvl not just 3, and the Blue boss.
On wave 28 the first 2 zombies are scorcher not dread.
But the rest is perfect great job -

 alot of time was put into this thread, good work man.. it's to hard to get crystal crates though and if i ever get one ill win somthing like a hypomed from it.. -_-' oh and thanks for the tips

I'm guessing this is what you've been doing? lol. well, one thing I'd like to attempt to correct is:Wave 28: Almost there xD

Why slashing/left click? The shovel and kukri are the best melees for this game mode because of their right click doing a lot of damage, I don't think you should ever right click with anything besides kris, but I'm sure there was a reason for you saying that. -

If you were to have a shovel for this then yes, it would be better to right click with the shovel, seeing as how the slash is slow and much weaker. I was basically speaking off my own view because i use a kris which as a very fast slash compared to its slow right click lol.
I dont own a kukri so i can really speak on that, but i know it has a pretty fast slash as well. I say slash because it's faster to left click and aim for the head on dreads (If you aim for their head then its a 1 hit kill). Shovel is about the only thing i wouldn't recommend for this, but every other melee should work out fine. Hope this cleared the confusion on why i said that -
