http://forum.z8games.com/showthread.php?t=32This fix has been submitted by rune101rune:
To those of you who cannot select the 1280x800 (wide) resolution and have Nvidia cards (most likely works for ATI too) and Windows Vista here is how to fix it. Go to control panel then go to System and Maintenance then scroll down until you see Nvidia Control Panel click it, then on the left side clock "manage custom resolutions", click create. Then in the Horizontal Desktop Pixels slot put 1280, then in the Vertical Desktop Pixels put 800 and click test to see if your monitor will work at that resolution. Then open Crossfire and now you should be able to select the resolution of 1280x800. Hope this works for everyone having the problem and enjoy. -

See if this will work for you. Note that if you are trying to use the 1440 by 900 just change the numbers accordingly.
i have an intel chipset... so i don't think this solution will work... i guess ill just stick to these settings fer now... thx anyways -
It sounds to me like your monitor isn't reporting the correct resolutions to the video driver. Check your Nvidia Control Panel for display settings. See if the monitor is recognized properly and if there are settings to obtain the supported resolutions from the monitor.

Fixed
Hey, I had the same problem after I updated my graphics card... so here's how to fix it, go to your Crossfire settings and check the resolution... if it says 800 X 600 or something like that... I prefer to set it to the maximum, but that depends on your screen.. then you exit the game, right click on the desktop and go to screen resolution, then you set the resolution on the resolution you saved on the crossfire settings.... then after this, you restart crossfire, it will automatically be full screen, from there your screen will detect that you run crossfire in this resolution, then you can exit the game, reset your resolution back to normal and each time you restart crossfire, it will go back to your preferred resolution. Done -
