"Failed to connect to server" gms, mods help!!!

I downloaded crossfire patch on existing game, cool! i was so excited until i saw when i saw the logon immediately following that before i can type in user name and password it says Failed to connect to server So re-downloaded it once, no difference, downloaded it twice, no difference, third time is the charm right? Well not in this instance no difference at all. So i took down all anti virus programs, put crossfire in the list of exceptions in the firewall defense system. Changed resolution, changed connection settings, changed screen refresh rate, all nothing. Changed it to open as an administrator nothing the same thing each time, someone help me ???? THank you
