the 'competitive' side
wondering if the competitive side of cf actually want new people trying to get involved or what? everytime i look here theres just loads of sad people bragging about how great they are and havent really seen teams willing to let new people in. i just dont get how people are supposed to learn or start off getting experience if nobody lets them in until they have experience or are known? dont even think you need to be that great or even have great aim on cf, average players that play well as a team can play just as well.
so yeh just wondering how new players are supposed to get involved with so many idiots around?
dont even reply if youre just gonna get ****y or brag. and dont tell me how bad i am and that youre better than me, cuz 1- yeah you are and 2- ive never played anyone here due to the above. thanks

If new players want to get better they should make their own team with people their skill level and play and practice together. New players won't get far joining teams because the bad teams that are around their skill level have the worst attitudes and tend to put down people the most. Unfortunately they can't join the better teams because it's not worth it for good teams to 'mentor' players and take them under their wing. You may be able to find a team with a decent skill level and a decent attitude who'd be willing to take you, but you'd have to look around.
The best advice I can give is simply make your own team. -

If it is lessons that you want, post your xfire and I can give you as much knowledge which one can give regarding the competitive scene. However, you WILL be talked down to in this community. It is part of the Competitive nature Anywhere. While here, there are a lot of disrespectful people, many can choose to ignore or retaliate. -

I had thought the only way to do it is to make a new team but honestly most people dont wanna know unless youve been heard of before. Even those players looking to start it seems they only wanna start somewhere with rep.. for bragging rights or something? i dunno. cheers thoIf it is lessons that you want, post your xfire and I can give you as much knowledge which one can give regarding the competitive scene. I will be online this evening (around 6-11pm est) I will be able to help you then.
EDIT: Also people are looking to join "the best teams" putting themselves in the best position possible to be a "top team" or win tournaments. -

alright cool.
and yeah but i think theyre going at it wrong.. theyre trying to just jump on board with an already successful team rather than trying to become a successful team. oh well suits some people -

Yup. As much as I agree with you, it is in the competitive nature to want to win. That is the only reason why they do so. However, you'd be surprised by teams that have improved over time and stuck together.
For example, in the past everyone knew Trio, LifeLine, 2K and ROC.
But teams such as [!]nstinct, Hammertime (Coregaming/Standby), imTEAM (eotL/Facedown revamped) are examples of teams that were never really "winning" anything at first, but after months and years of staying together, they improved into the best teams. -

Dag has the idea right.
When you first start playing competitive, you have to have little to no standards for the skill level of your team. You are completely ignorant of how people play, and what the proper things to do in a scrim are, so you cannot expect the other people on your team to be more intelligent then that. What you should be looking for in teammates is friendlyness, and that alone.
I also cannot stress enough the importance of playing in the clan server. 3v3s to 8v8s, the format doesn't truly matter, so long as you are learning how to properly call and use VOIP to the fullest. The clan server is the perfect place for tams of new players to learn, and makes a good stepping stone into e8 scrimming.
When I first started playing competitively in SF, the clan that had the biggest impact on me was a clan called BLIGHTY. They had a very large amount of players, so getting clan wars was very easy and I had a LOT of opportunities to play. They were not a "competitive clan," so all of their clan wars were in low level team vs team games, and I didn't have to worry about doing super good, just learning.
After you find a clan like this, you have two options. 1, if you are a part of a small group of people from that clan who find themselves playing together a lot, and really enjoy playing together, then you guys can all start to playing in harder and harder match ups, potentially moving to e8 scrimming. 2, if you do not find a group of like-minded people from the clan, then what you can do is slowly start to play with established clans that get smaller and smaller in member size, but do not sacrifice much in the way of activity. I've found that as the clan gets smaller, it is generally because they like to keep a tighter-nit group, and with that regularly comes a more competitive outlook. -
This works too.
that's what i did. i was invited to paradox on like my 4th day playing. i still remember my first pug... i did not know calls on any maps besides the obvious but the people were nice and i learned most of the general calls within a span of a month.
Also if you end up joining a clan and you're being talked down to then it's best to just leave. Don't bother because it will probably just end with you being kicked. In other words try to stay away from the "2 week" teams.
And remember it's a game...
