__Peter__'s burst/strafe tutorial with m4a1!
5-Bullet Burst (4-3-2013)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7PlMQcHfPM&feature=youtu.be
Hello this is my first guide ever written for a game of any sort. My name is Peter and my ign unsurprisingly is __Peter__. You may have seen me in Alaska matches all over Alpha server and this is the only thing I play haha. Without further delay, I want to share with the crossfire community what I have learned over my years of honing my shot(offense) and my strafe(defense) and mixing up the two to form a deadly first person shooter that can hold his own in tough situations against multiple players.
Sensitivity and Mouse Surface
I own a Microsoft wireless 3500 mobile mouse that only works on real smooth surfaces and is a real battery drainer. I do not own a mousepad(mouse does not work well with the cheap ones) so what I do is double-fold a regular T-shirt and use that as my mousepad. It is real crucial that one can swing one's mouse in the direction of an opponent when peeking/coming out of a corner and burst a quick 3-4 bullets to weaken the opponent or even kill the opponent without taking damage or much damage at all. Therefore I play with a sensitivity of 3 in game (sniper sensitivity around 10-20 I do not remember) and a out of game sensitivity that is also pretty low. The disadvantage to this is that one gets killed 1) if one is getting shot from behind where it requires one to turn a full 180 degrees to place one's cursor on the opponent as it takes me personally two quick drags of the mouse to turn 180 degrees 2) when one plays without sound and someone pops out in front of your face and a spray fest ensues with the other person jumping behind you and requiring one to quickly turn around to center your spray onto the opponent. However, the advantage to low controllable sensitivity is that one can aim flawlessly especially when the opponent is about 50-75 meters away in a "far" range firefight as one easily has more control over the cursor. It all really depends on the player, I find it better to have a low sensitivity that allows better aiming than high sensitivity that allows one to turn 180's in a split second (one is still able to turn 90 degrees in a split second with low sensitivity and that should be good enough in my opinion). In the video, one can see what I had just mentioned about the importance of quick aiming.

The Gun (M4A1)
For this guide, I will focus just on the M4A1 as everyone can agree that it is the most balanced gun in the game with its power, speed, recoil, etc and with the technique I am about to go over, one will become pretty darn good.
Tip 1: Do not panic
Tip 2: Do not spray unless 1) close range or 2) mid range and one can "drag down" about 4-7 bullets before the T-pattern recoil starts to kick in
"Drag Down" Burst
The m4 as one may know has the first 2 bullets basically going straight where you aim. The third bullet lands a little higher than where the first 2 landed and the subsequent bullets jump up even higher until the 8th or so bullet and then the recoil pattern will start going horizontally. One should never get to this point however in far or mid range firefights as it is real important to conserve bullets for taking down multiple opponents without reloading. What I personally live and die by is the 3 shot burst with the m4 with a little slow-paced "drag down" of the mouse after the first bullet with the m4 as it can technically kill in close range as each bullet does a little more than 33 damage in the upper body area(within 20 meters?) and with a headshot it will be one hit. This little "drag down" will basically focus all three bullets in one area if one is within 50 meters. Now in the the tutorial video, one can see that my combination of shots are all 3 shot bursts combined together in some form or another with the timing of my strafe and in the video below one can see what I am referring to.
Tip 3: remember to let recoil die down before bursting again.
Tip 4: one can technically drag down after the 2nd bullet to get a perfect burst of 3 bullets in one spot but the timing is hard so what I do is drag down after the first bullet so that the third bullet hits the spot where my first bullet hits while the second bullet hits a little bit lower than my initial bullet.

The Strafe (mid-range/long-range)
Now there are many ways to dodge bullets that are coming straight at you but my most reliable strafe is a simple left right left right left right continuous strafe without stopping. One can see this in the beginning of the video. There really is no secret to this simple short/medium length strafe. It may be simple but it will give most players fits as they try to center their cursor on your character while you're constantly changing directions after every half second.

Burst+Strafe Combination
This has been my secret formula for success the past year or so. When I first see an opponent I will quickly flick towards where he or she is and fire off a "drag down" burst of 3 bullets immediately and continue on with my left right left right medium length strafe while bursting 3 bullets at a time at the POINT AT WHICH ONE CHANGES DIRECTION IN THE STRAFE, now this is the most important thing to take out of this tutorial. One can see that one's cursor gets bigger when one moves as it makes shots less accurate than when one stands still. The beauty of this method is that when one changes direction, one momentarily stops for a good quarter of a second and this is the perfect time to fire off a burst of 3 bullets as it is pretty much as accurate as one firing off 3 bullets when one is not moving. The hard part is getting the timing down.
For example, when I strafe left and see an opponent, I immediately strafe right and immediately after pressing the "D" key to move right, about a 1/8 second delay is when I would fire off 3 shots while also dragging down at where the opponent's neck is and about half a second into the strafing right motion, the recoil would die down completely and this is when I would strafe left by pressing the "A" key and once again about 1/8 second later I would fire off a burst of 3 bullets. One can see this in the video. The timing is not that easy to get down as one has to worry about 1) aim 2) drag down 3) strafe(this will become all natural and instinctive with practice and time) When one fires off a round of shots before or after this "split second in which the cursor shrinks to normal size", one's second and third bullet will go off to the side and not where one wants it to go. Or if one fires off shots in too short of intervals before waiting for all of the recoil to die down, one will also get inaccurate shots.
When one puts this together, this is what it resembles in this video.

Close Range
I'm not afraid to admit, I lose a greater percentages of my firefights at close range as one can land 3-4 bullets with a decent spray. Therefore in close range, I adapt a different strafe in which one can see in the tutorial video from 0:34-0:54 that involves a real short left right left or right left right strafe while bursting off 3 bullets in between changing directions that allows one to fire off 9 bullets in accurate fashion in a matter of less than 2 seconds. I find this an alternative to the typical spray and pray or even the controlled spray as it is not hard to do either.
Here is a video of this aforementioned strafe in a real game -

Tip 5: Know your maps and play conservatively in times of doubt
Now armed with this hopefully new knowledge one can practice, practice, practice and become a DECENT player in this game.
