i think to better ping you need to also have a internet provider that had covered a wide section of your residential area i live in jamaica nd i get a ping of 100-150 in us and with another provider i once got 50 and another i got 30 however i have the one with the highest ping sucks to be me loooooolz

Ping depends on your distance from the server. I don't believe switching internet providers would increase/decrease your ping that dramatically, maybe 5-10. -

ps: your ping is actually your distance fromt he server your distance from the server is determined by your service provider its 3 steps ............. your modem>>>>>>>the provider>>>>>the server you are transfering the data from.... therefore when the server sends the data it is the structure of your provider that alters the speed and how long it takes to get data or send data to the server.....I know what am talking dude.... and i think internets with fiber wires as a better ping... just saying man i proved it XD -

This can't be right. My cousin uses Shaw Communications, and so do I, as an internet provider. He lives an hour away from me, and has worse ping than I do in Alpha Server (he gets about 75, whereas I get 68). We are both hard-wired, and have the maximum internet speeds, same internet plan and everything. I think this kind of proves that it's the distance from your modem to the Crossfire server, rather than the distance from your internet providers HQ to the server. -

so if i set up my modem right beside the U.S. south server. then ran a line from there to my humble home in Mississippi, i would have a 1 ping? -

1) Your computer gets a connection
2) You ask or send for data
3) Data goes to your neighbourhood connection box
4) Box sends data to city backbone
5) City backbone sends to major backbone. THIS could be at various locations depending on the routing of your data, and is the BIGGEST cause of ping difference, even from people living 10 minutes way
6) Major backbone goes to city
7) Do steps 4-1 backwards.
8) Profit
Real world example
I used to live in Hamilton, 1 hour away from Toronto. CF servers were in Toronto. I had 4 ping
I moved to Toronto. CF servers were in Toronto. I have 14 ping.
How is this possible? Because my Hamilton location had a direct connection to a major backbone, with almost no additional steps (Known as hops to some people). However, my Toronto location has to go through all the steps above, much more then I had previously in Hamilton -

No, I never really payed attention to the suffix's of the servers, I just saw "US" and assumed I'd have bad ping in that server.
But all of the American's playing in Canadian servers get fine ping xD
Regardless, I'm from the southern USA and my ping in "US South" is no lower than in Bravo.
