Attention Community! - Mod Changes and forum happenings

Attention Community!

We're here today to talk about a few things that have been going on in and around the forums. And some upcoming changes and some positive growth for us all!

New Moderator!
First off, we would like to welcome a new moderator to town. NattNatt will be the next moderator chosen by us to help out around the forums, in game and within the community. He's a great player, active and very friendly and has recently been involved with a lot of community aspects of the game. We look forward to getting him on the team later this week and seeing how he can handle the job!

Additionally, Greycloak and Blindrob will be stepping down as moderators for the time being. While great members of this community and helpful on many occasions, activity levels have pulled these two away from regular visits to the forums and game. And 9 will also be taking a leave of absence for a couple of weeks as well. He will still be considered a part of the team, however for the time being he will not bear the mod tag on the forums.

Mod Applications?!
Secondly, we're going to be opening up some Moderator applications. We've created a specific post for this which will be displayed in the barracks. This post hopefully will put to rest what we're looking for in a moderator and how you can get involved yourself!

Note that we are looking for a couple new moderators, however there is no set time limit on the applications or when we will choose someone. The purpose of the app thread is to show you, with more concrete position what we look for when we choose our moderators.

Next up we're going to talk about some recent conduct on the forums from both our Moderating staff and by members of the community.

An Open Discussion about The Community - And improvements coming!
As you can see from the above, we are reviewing our Moderating staff and looking to add new members. We hope to have some changes coming also as far as better conduct policy for the mods and more accountability as well.

This however does not excuse the gamers, community and public from ridiculing, insulting, provoking or trolling the Moderating or GM staff on these forums or in game.

Our Moderators are trusted members of the community and who represent different areas of the game both in-game and on the forums. They act to the best of their abilities to maintain some semblance of peace on the forums based on the rules that we (the staff here at Z8Games) have set out. When they make a decision, we know that they are doing it after considering all options.

The forums have grown to a level where there is activity 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our moderating staff is small, however we are not prepared to give the authority and privilege to just anyone in order to increase those moderator numbers for the sake of it. This is why we seek out special members of the community to join our crew.

The forums have been a great place, however recently certain respected members have sought out to force a double standard on themselves. By being visible members of the community they purposely go out and break the rules, and when the moderating staff acts appropriately they have been seen citing rules and regulations on other users.

So we are at a cross roads where the answer is yet unclear. We do know however that more work is required from us to help the community along, encourage positive growth and proper discussion. This is going to come in the form of better rules, more openness about how we choose moderators, and their policy for dealing with users and more.

What does this mean?
This may not end up being gumdrops and lollipops for everyone. Because it will mean that we are looking to close the grey area between how users are treated on the forums, this could quickly lead to infractions and bans for all types of users. However if this is how we must move forward to protect the integrity of our community, game and staff then this is how we must do it.

Our Moderating staff should be protected from provocation, and especially from the mob mentality. People make mistakes and it shouldn't cost them everything they work for because a few people on the boards insist on trying to get one of them "fired".

We will be going further into these details as we re-evaluate the rules over the next short period. What we hope is, by the end of all this extra efforts we have a clearer set of rules, new moderators and some fresh community life and everyone having a greater respect for everyone else.

We want these boards to thrive with discussion about Cross Fire (be it good or bad), but we want the discussion to contain real thoughts, intelligent posts and people who feel passionately about Cross Fire. While that may be difficult through all the lost account threads, or threads about ribbons, or the i hate zp guns threads, we really hope that over the course of the next while, some improvement here can be achieved.

Thanks to everyone who has been a part of this community. We hope you'll stick through this period of change and add your thoughts and input on how we can improve it!
