Auto Patch has encountered a Problem

My b/f has been having trouble getting the game to start up. He's went to regedit and deleted all of it and it still won't start. The start dialog box will open then it starts to auto patch and then a message comes up Auto Patcher has encountered a problem and must shut down. He has done everything right. I'm sitting next to him and mine just started up correctly. Any help will be appreciated.
