Ping

^.^ I found this stuff whilst searching, not sure if its true tough so don't take it as a final answer.
Does internet speed affect ping?
"Connection speed is a factor, but not the only one. It all depends on:
- Your ISP (Some can use traffic shaping to make browsing quicker than gaming/downloading)
- Your line quality (as mentioned above)
- Your distance from the server (as mentioned above)
- Your local connection (EG: Faulty wireless might result in high ping)
- Your speed
- How many people are using your connection" -

yes. I work for an ISP company.
The other thing is you log in to crossfire and your isp routes you to route A to the servers. You log in the next day and your isp chooses route B this time.(which happnes... alot and its not ur ISP's fault... its the bigger companies that provide them service.
there are millions of ways you can be routed to a server location. -
Depends how far the data has to travel, as well as the quality of the line it travels on.
I live in a very rural area, and i get 50 kb/s download speeds, but i get a decent ping in-game. So it;s not all about internet speed.
50 kb/s? you realize thats worse than dial up? -
your internet speed doesn't matter... increased my net speed x3 and nothing changed, it depends on your location *.*
not only bro.
you speed does make a difference as i said. but only to a certain extent.
What were ur speeds before and what are they now.Yeah i do. I live in a house in the woods, nothing is nearby. I'm lucky i can even get internet
I still get 25 ping in UK / 105 in US.
>.>

yeah, when i download things from the internet at max i will get 80 k/bs though.

From my experience, ping is a general reflection of your connection to the server. It's how many milliseconds it takes for the system to receive and execute the keystrokes you make, as well as how fast the server can send you information back. This is why high ping generally = lots of lag.
Ping can vary based on your location, which is obvious. The shorter the distance the data has to travel, the quicker it can go both ways, obviously.
It can also vary based on the type of internet you are using. I.E. Landline or Wi-Fi. I use a landline, and I get about 35-50 ping in all but UK and West servers. My friend who lives two doors down from me in a rural area used Wi-Fi to play Cross Fire, and he got 200-275 ping in the same room as I did.
ISP can matter as well, because they control your internet speed. A faster connection generally means lower ping, because the data can move quickly to the servers and back again.
Hope this answers your question well enough.
