Are gaming keyboards really necessary?

It really depends on how serious a gamer you are... all in all if you cant play the game properly and are looking for a fix to make you better... gaming accessories wont do that for you...
however if you want to take your game to the next level and fine tune your already well constructed skills adding equipment that will increase response times, and quality will do that for you
The same thing can be said for other sports, for example in golf you can buy a new driver that has been proven to add distance to your swing, however if you dont already have the necessary skill to swing the club the proper way, it wont do anything for you. -

Who the **** looks at their keyboard while playing Crossfire? Also, there's something called light where you can turn on and off if you even have lights in the room you're playing in. -

lol faze.. dem electric bulbs to bright for ya? -
Changing from a Razer Lycosa (Silicon plate) to a Mechanical keyboard was a significant change for me. Mechanical keyboards feel a lot more responsive, reliable and just feels 100x times better than pushing down on a key with rubber under it. It will feel great for other games too, but if you really only play CF then I would wait for ESG to officially come until I get one.
EDIT: You don't even need to get a gaming keyboard to get this result. Any decent mechanical keyboard will offer great value. -
You should just get a mechanical one, not just because of gaming tho.
They perform better at anything you can do with a keyboard.
I got a steelseries 6gv2 myself, tried the Razer blackwidow before that. Didn't like the MX blue switches and the look on the BW, so I went with the 6gv2 instead. They're both pretty cheap.
If you're willing to spend a bit more money on your keyboard tho, try a DAS Keyboard. -

you don't need a fancy keyboard for any shooter for that matter
i've got a €10,- one (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-920-001488-K300-Compact-Keyboard/dp/B00250XJ56/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1330544903&sr=8-1) and it has a nicer feel than the roccat keyboards i tried out at my local gamestore. -
Out of all the keyboards I've used, the most responsive and comfortable, as expected with most mech keyboards, was the Razer Blackwidow.
However the most all-round useful keyboard would be the Saitek Cyborg V.7I can't walk and a diagonal and press tab.
Ghosting's a bitch, definitely one of the main justifiable reasons to upgrade keyboard. -
Logitech keyboards G15, G510, and G19 have backlit lights that can be scripted to be dance disco lights, which you can see on youtube.
They also have led panels that are cool too.
Mechanical keyboards are very loud, so if u have roommates then do not get them.
Lycosa is nice too, 1ms response time, low key stroke, backlit.
Thermaltek esports challenge has a 50 dollars one that looks decent.
To me gaming keyboards are essential for FPS. -
gaming anything isn't necessary as you know its preference- if you buy keyboards because they come with a fan on your keyboard and rave lighting and you're expecting to get some kind of upper-hand on people you're ******ed, and i suggest you buy a gaming glove.
