Mouse Acceleration, Whats Your Side?

  • I've really gotten used to it by now.

But it gets annoying since I play on 4 sensitivity. And when someone jumps around a corner I usually cant move fast enough to get him.

if this is the case then you don't know what mouse acceleration means. if you have 4 sensitivity and you move your mouse quickly it moves further than the normal raw input, meaning you would need more mouse acceleration to get the player jumping at you. when i used to play this game i got saved by mouse accel plenty of times but i feel like it's still a bit stupid it's kept in.

    That's what I mean.

    "I've gotten used to it"

It's not hard understanding this. I play on a low sen to minimize the acceleration.
  • raw input has no affect on mouse acceleration

you can run crossfire as raw input and it still has mouse accel

    stop spreading lies

    i didn't say this
raw input + cf = mouse accel
raw input + any other decent mmofps = raw input

that's because cf has mouse accel built in, has nothing to do with raw input or wmousemove or dinput

you can have both raw input and mouse accel in quake/1.6/source games

raw input is just a way mouse movement is read, and has nothing to do with acceleration
  • if crossfire didn't have mouse accel built in there would be no mouse accel

if they didn't code crossfire on an awful fear engine (i believe) it wouldn't even have built-in mouse accel.

the engine has mouse accel built in like i said

the fear engine doesn't but this modified version of it does

...what on earth? first time i'm hearing this. i thought the fear engine had mouse accel built-in and because of that cf did too. some faith in humanity has been lost.

when i played fear during their multiplayer launch tournament i didn't notice mouse accel at the time. checking it turns out it is the same engine.

i could always reinstall the game and check

change your usb polling rate to 125hz

if its already that, i have no idea
  • Yes, getting your polling rate down to 125 helps with waves. Depending on how you do it (your OS, mouse, software) you have to watch out as you can ruin your USB port. You can reset it most times, but one of my older computers has issues in the ports I tried to reduce the polling rate.

And as for this mouse acceleration issue, what if we come together as a community and PM/Email our concerns and needs to the right people and get this noticed? It doesn't just have to be mouse acceleration. A group of guys can put together a list, post it or pass it along to everyone in the community to then send out to CF "representatives". At that point it's up to the people to send it out. Imagine Saidin checking his PM's expecting to see hacking reports, yet instead see's all of our PM's?

I can't do it because nobody knows me, but I'm sure if some respekteble people come together, plan it out, and get it done we can make a difference. I'm around to help and I personally like the idea.

Edit: Because nothing is going to change otherwise, unless we really show it. Threads and posts haven't counted as much as we want them too, it's talking directly to people that makes issues stand out.
  • The amount of people that would want it changed is so small that its not even worth it for them.
