What's your thoughts on smoke (noob) nades and flash bangs?
While I think that smoke grenades and flash bangs can be useful in the right situation, most people who use them are uber noobs. I'd like to a patch one day that would limit how much smoke or how many flashes can be used at a time. There's nothing worse than playing on a map where all you can see is smoke and white screens every 5 seconds.

flash bangs are good, but almost never used right. i am pretty sure i have only gotten a hand full of kills from baddies my teammates flashed. (less then 5 kills outa over 50k kills) in my book those stats dont justify the use of em,, considering i can contribute 8 or so deaths to me being blinded by my team mates.
Smokes is awsome....... i have one in my sniper bag and use it alot... the do the job they are intended too.. confuse the baddies and make it harder to see your movements. i find them best used in s and d map... small ones like EE.... u can literally steer the bl team into what ever route u choose,,, Most players will back away from smoke rather then charge thru it... smoke middle and a route long and more often then not thell end up in b via hotel... u can thro a couple of smokes in one spot, leave one guy to pop of random shots thru and guard... will make any one thing more then twice before charging in... it lets u defend routes with fewer manpower...
ALL that being said... THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO NEED EVER for some one to use Fb's or Sg's during TDM.... EVER... i think they should be removed from this game mode. TDM is not a strat based game mode, it is all about rushing,, there is no offense or defense. and if a team finds themselves pined down in their spawn in the only situation a fb might come in handy,, the deserve to be stuck there for sucking so bad and not being able to clear their spawn. TDM = no strats.... fb and sg = strats... therefore tdm = no need for fb/gs -
In my opinion smokes and flashes should be removed from every mode other than S&D. The reason I say that is because when your trying to work a bombsite with your teammate or do a 2-1-2/4-1/2-3 split smoke grenades and flashbangs come in handy however in TDM and FFA it doesn't fit.
The objective of the two modes are to kill or be killed, using flashbangs and smokes are just cheap tactics.
And yes, being able to see names through smokes is ridiculous. I one shot a kid just by seeing his name through the smoke. -

Wow, that's good strategy. I have to admit I pretty much play TDs exclusively, so I never get a chance to see a team use smoke grenades like that. I love rushing, I have to say though that there is strategy involved in everything if you want to do it well. I put my reputation on the line in saying that there is skill needed if to be a "good" TD player. I find that while it does'nt require in depth strategy like SnD matches or other modes, it does require a keen eye, good timing, quick reflexes and the ability to read the enemy and predict their patterns. Not as easy as it sounds in a room with 16 people. -

Flashes and smokes should be only available in S&D and GM.
In GM, flashes are perfect to confuse ghosts or Ninja-defuse. -
I see so many times people complain about flashes and smokes and it's precisely because they are so effective, when used right, and just outright annoying when used randomly.
I like both of them .
I don't think they should be removed from tdm, but I never use anything other than nades in that kind of match myself as well.
I agree too with the names not being seen through the smoke. You should only see tracer/trails to know where to shoot. -
ok so as far as im concerned, flashes are fine, except for the noobs that buy them, then dont want them so they team-flash beginning of every round, and because they wanna be noobs and they think we wont notice whos doing it.
smoke on the other hand, (now mind you, i ONLY pub, seeing as my clan has no strats, and i dont have vent.) is stupid. in my mind, i would use smoke to guard MYSELF, which, i may be wrong, but means smoke the place that i want to hide, or the place i want them to think i am. i wouldnt even consider smoking the place enemy players are, because you cant see them.
again, i could be wrong but i hate when people chuck smoke nades to spots my opponents will be trying to box, so i have to redirect my time to go to another spot, which makes me annoyed, and i play badly (worse than usual lol) -
Flashbangs can be pretty awesome in TD, not only for S&D
Too bad that most of time, people don't aim correctly and flash the own team instead of the ennemy >_>
For smoke...well I guess usefulness depends on map and mode.
Know how to use them, and your ennemy will be very annoyed :] -
Smoke is good
I use smoke all the time in TD and it works great. It will cut down the line of sight for snipers that camp. It forces the other team to break the patterns that they use and funnel traffic to a new part of the map. I've watched my team score go up in a direct result of using smoke. Once I was asked to stop and as soon as I stopped the other teams score went up. I usually throw the smoke to the opposite direction where I plan to go. This works very will on Fortress as there are usually a lot of campers and snipers. You can also let your team know where it is going so they can adjust their attack. Smoke is good. -

i only use my smoke to hide from enemies :P
